Anderson Coel, Coel Anderson Craigslist Scam Internet
I posted an add on Craigslist for a hot tub I am trying to sell. Was contacted by this person approximatly 10 minutes after I had posted the add by text. This is what the text said "Hot Tub - $5000.00 Hope your add is still up for sale ? Reply me back to my personal email Andersoncoel01@gmail.com because am unable to reply you back on this number its my office cell phone thanks" I sent an email and told this person it was still available.
This is the reply I got back" Thank you for responding. I am okay with the Ad,and your asking price and ready to make a fast purchase. Kindly send me some pics close up. I would like to see any imperfections just to be sure but if it is how you have described it everything is Ok. Also I am wondering if you are you the first owner of it? Also does it has any fault? Why are you selling it? How have you been using it?"
Best Regards,
I sent a picture as requested and answered the questions. I then received this email
"Thanks for the breakdown. The price is okay. I'm just asking about it to make sure it’s in good condition,I'm deployed out of town because I work with the Military and have been in camp for some time and due to my deployment i will not be able to come for it, I have a pickup coming for it on my behalf. So i am requesting this transaction should be done via PayPal so the PayPal charges are on me and PayPal is very safe and I have access to my funds there, that's the only reason why PayPal is the only payment option. I am straight up with you and I want you to be honest with me as well. Do you have a verified PayPal account?
Best Regards,"
I agreed to use PayPal to receive the payment. I spent the next several hours reading and doing research to be sure I wouldn't get burned. I suggest doing your research if you ever plan on using PayPal. PayPal has almost no safegaurds in place to protect you as the seller. Even if you follow their rules to the T you can still get burned. Be careful and do the research. I Still had questions so I called them and got all the answers I needed.
Once I agreed to use PayPal this is the next email I recieved
" look forward to hearing from you with your PayPal information as requested below.
Your PayPal e-Mail Address :
Paypal Full name:
Firm Price:
Phone #
Pick up Location"
When I did not respond fast enough I got this 3 hours later. "Hello details needed for payment"
I let this person know I would get back to them when I had a few answers to questions I had.
This is the email that I sent that shut the scam down.
"I have concluded my research and found a few issues with using PayPal. First thing is I have to take control of the shipping. Shipping the hot tub to the address listed on the PayPal transaction is the only way it will be done. In order to get proper pricing I need to know the address that is listed on your PayPal account. Once I have this information I will put an invoice together for payment. I will provide a tracking number to you via email once I have the number and it is in route. This is a lot of additional steps to take and I do not want to use PayPal as the payment method.
