We requested an in home quote to have our electric hot water tank heater replaced with a tankless hot water heater because we have hard water that quickly ruins the hot water heaters. The sales person told us upon entering our home that he could give us options. He tested our water and as we knew it would, he found that it was high in sulfur.

He said that he had a reverse osmosis system that could remove most of all water impurities and make it drinkable. He said he checked and found that we have an Anderson filtering system in place that should be keeping the water from ruining the hot water heaters. We told him we knew that, but it had not been used for a long time because it was a potassium system and it cost too much for the chemicals.

He checked our system and told us it would be no problem to convert the existing system over to a salt system. Then he started writing down pricing options. The sales person convinced us that they convert the system over easily to salt and then we could just stick with an electric tank hot water heater. He priced out an option to replace our older heater with a new and larger unit, convert the existing system to salt, and install a reverse osmosis filtering system for $3000.

We agreed to the option and signed an agreement which he also signed that stated those exact terms. They came to our home the following day and installed the reverse osmosis filter system and swapped out the hot water heater. They did not convert over the filtering system to a salt system. When we called the company, they said that they could not convert it to a salt system.

They said they could convert it for another $2700. When I made it clear that I expected them to complete the job as paid for in the signed agreement, the sales person offered us $200 off and said he would service the existing system for nothing. We were very clear upfront that we did not like the potassium system or the cost of the potassium.

The sales person told us there would be no problem changing it over several times. When confronted on the phone he got upset and accused me of threatening him and misleading him. All we want is for them to complete their part of the signed agreement and switch over the filtering system to a system that uses salt at a lower cost. We would never agreed to the terms if they had even said that there might be an issue converting the system over.

The sales person either lied or really did not understand their product. Either way we were mislead. Now we are back where we started with the potential of the hot water heater burning out in a year because of this sales persons lie or ineptness. Whatever the case, it is not our fault and should not cost us an additional $2700. I am not trying to get something for free. I am trying to get job completed as the signed agreement by both of us was written. We did file a complaint with the BBB and are pursuing legal actions.
