Complaint Review: Angie's List

i signed up for Angies list as I was looking for a contractor for remodeling of my kitchen, March 20014.    Angies List commercials state they do the work for you and have the best contractors.  So in good faith i hired a liscensed contractor to remodel my kitchen off of Angie's List  He did a shoody terrible job, it looks like a 12 year old did the work.  He put in plumbing that has leaked inside the cabinets (i had to pay someone to fix it) and put in a new main breaker box as he told me i needed one and have since found out I did not as i was not increasing any voltage.  He did not tell me nor did he obtain a permit and have it inspected.  He did not put it in correctly now not only do i have to get cabinets replaced (they are crooked, mismatched and backwards ad epoxy is seeping under them) i have to pay to get a permt and inspection.  I called the registrar of contractors to file a complaint as this guy took the rest of the money to fix this mess and then stopped showing up.  This is when i found out the guy has not had a valid contractors liscense for over a year.  Per Angie's List he has a valid active liscense.  I called Angie's List to file a complaint and was told they will take him off the list due to the liscense issue, but that they are only a list and a neutral party and I should have checked his lisense.  I was pretty upset when I relaized that even though they had incorrect information on thier list that I pay for, they will not accept any responsibility.  They contacted this guy and he offered to fix a couple of the minor issues but did not address that the breaker box and plumbing should not have been done by him because he is not lisensed to do it and Angie's List ignored this fact also. I replied back that I had to chase this guy to do the bad job he did (he would show up 5-6 hours late, did not have a regular crew as he promised me, would not show up at all, would leve the job site after being there for only a couple hours and then emailed me that a kid was coming to put in a couple of cabinets and told me to take him to pick the cabinets up!!  this went on and on.  I discussed the issues with Angie's List and they told me sorry, they are just a list, a neutral party and I should have checked his lisense.  I spoke with a lady named Mindy OOLey at Angie's List and she admitted that thier system of checking providers is flawed but that as much responsibility as she was willing to take.  SO I have to ask what does ANgies List do?  they do not chekc the providers on thier list, if therre is problem, they do not assist and so I have to say they are a huge rip off.  I am stuck with a big mess and I gave this shyster 14,300.00 dollars for a kitchen remodel thqat looks like a 12 year old did the work.
