It has come to my attention that an animal abuser may be living the same apartment building as I do. My attempts to confront the individual have been unsuccessful to date. But, I feel it is my duty as a good citizen and animal rights activist to continue. The news of the abusive incident was relayed to the building management, and to my shock, the superintendent(a female) started laughing. Apparently, the maintenance man caught him in the act. And from what I gathered of their conversation, this must not be the first inclination of his behavior.

Being a new resident, I was apalled at what I overheard, I left the office without saying anything. However, my conscience prevented me from dismissing the disturbing report. On the way back to my apartment, I kept thinking that I should have read the lease agreement thoroughly, I had no idea about such a liberal pet policy. As I entered the hallway, I saw the abuser and called out to him "hey, are you the guy that was caught spanking your monkey". The coward's look of surprise and embarassment hastened his retreat into his flat. Beware abusers, you will account for your actions.

This is the type of behavior that causes abuse to be overlooked

You think it's a joke, but in the long run this type of behavior is what enables animal abuse to occur. Animals are like childeren, in a way that they are voiceless, dependant, and often disrespected. I think sometimes people get tired of us animal rights activists "freaking out" about animal abuse cases, but what they don't see and understand is how often these occurences are and how little support for us and the abused/neglected animals there is. I hope that someday more people will understand how important these animals are.
