In december I recieved a telemarketing phone call. I usually retain from listening or even ansering to these people, however I've had friends that have done this job during school so I thought I'd listen. They had claimed that due to my visa, which I had recently been approved for, I was able to be listed in a prize drawing if I listened to the following offer( in oder to be
enrolled I was asked my visa card number for verification)...so I listened.

In the conversation she had asked me my magazine interests and basic questions of hobbies...she then asked me if I wanted to know about a deal...I agreed to hear the deal. She had told me that I could recieve 2 year subscriptions to 5 magazines of my choice for only $12.95 per month...I said I was interested, but that I wanted to see it in writing before I signed up for it.
The next day I recieved another call from the same company congradulating me on my magazine agreement-I was then told that it was $58.95 per month..

I was furious and didn't know what to say. She could tell I was upset and I explained to her that I was told it would be 12.95 the dat before and she made it sound like it was 12.95 a week. She then asked me if I wanted to lower my payments to $30 per month...by this time I was so upset I just said "fine". A couple weeks later I recieved a letter from them with a release form-for payments- I didn't sign it because this was not the original
deal I had agreed to look at after the information was sent to my house in writing. However, they continued to place charges on my visa bill and I still do not recieve all the magazines, maybe 2 out of the 5 I am supposed to get.

Nor did I recieve the diamond studded watch I was supposed to get for even talking to them. I feel I was taken advantage of...but I didn't know who or where to turn to until I came across this page. I would be Very appreciative for any help I can recieve...I'm afraid that even if I just paid it off they
would continue to bill me for 2 years or more and I would end up even worse...all I want is for this to be over and have no more payments to this unjustified company and no more magazines ... which I can send them all back to the company.

And isn't it illegal to be able to cancel any deal..you just have a fee?

Thank you for your time-please help as soon as you can.
sincerely,
Patricia LaPointe

First off they must clearly state the purpose of the call is to sell magazines. By starting off with the prize drawing or the free gift they have violated the law. Making misleading statements and misrepresenting statements about thier products or the cost of thier products is also illegal.

Contact the FTC and your local Attorney general and have your credit cards/bank account numbers changed so they can't charge you.
