I have been fighting with AOL ever since Feb., 2003. I tried broadband service, and when I signed up for that (which it turns out I could not use on my current system) I was high-pressured into signing up, for a free trial, AOL Credit Alert and Net Market. I sent info back to both as soon as I received info in the mail about them, and asked to cancel. Last night, $79.99 was automatically taken from my checking account for Credit Alert.
Now my rent check is going to bounce. They conveniently cannot help me on the phone because their systems are "down". One of their phone numbers is constantly busy. My bank has faxed me an affidavit of unauthorized withdrawal, and I am faxing it back to them today. I am also going to contact the attorney general of N.C. today, to lodge a formal complaint, and possible legal
action. I'm tired of it.

The same thing happened to me without my authorization. I cancelled last year. Luckily, I had called them from my bank and the lady at the bank just so happened to have the confirmation number on the AOL netmarket. I had to pay my bank 8.00 to stop payment from AOL netmarket. AOl had to pay back my account since it was witnessed and a confirmation number had been provided to close this account. Do you know AOL still tried to take the money even with a stop payment and confirmation number? Consumers are literally forced to pay and take something that they don't want. Beats me that this is legal in the USA. I thought no meant no.
They managed to still take money from this credit alert mess again. I don't know how to stop them from taking money out year after year unless I close my bank account. No means yes to AOL. Watch out for them they will take what they want. I tried to contact them and the lady from AOL keeps giving me bogus numbers. Yet, they continue to offer a 2 month free trial. I don't get it. So, I will be forced to close this bank account to keep them from taking my money.
