My husband worked for AOL, and was laid off August of last year. As soon has he was laid off, he called in to cancel his free employee account. The customer service person gave us two free months, so we kept AOL. 2 months later, when trying to cancel, we were given another free month. Again one month later, the same story, one more free month. After 4 free months, we were finally able to cancel.

Now get this, 7 months after finally cancelling we get a notice in the mail that we owe AOL $96 and change for internet service. It was supposed to be free!! If it hadn't been for free, we would've cancelled. We hated AOL and only stayed with them because it was free and we could no longer afford anything else.

It was bad enough they screwed my husband over when laying him off, now they want us to give them money for something they gave us as free? Give me a break.

I'm really upset that this will end up putting a ding on my husband's credit, but i'll be damned if we're going to pay for it. They make so much money, I don't understand why they feel the need to screw the little guy.
