AOL rip-off Jacksonville Florida
I called AOL in June 2002 to cancel an account. I was asked for my CC number, I accidently gave the wrong number ( a number for a different account). They asked for the correct # which I provided. They offered to extend my service for free for 3 months. I agreed to this.
They then started billing my first card number for a different (new) account.
I tried to get this amt credited and because I never authorized another acct and they said I wanted to open another acct and refused the credit. I never used the new AOL acct.
I called their fraud department to notify them that someone had opened this acct either fraudulantly or in error. They said since I called in I had to pay for the 2 months service. I called in to CANCEL an account-not start a new one. They acknowledged the new acct had not been used, but still refuded a refund.
Do AOl reps get some sort of commission for openign/maintaing accts. I think this must be the basis for some of their problems. Either that or everyone that works there is just plain STUPID.
