Complaint Review: AOL Credit Alert

AOL's Credit Alert won't honor their trial basis, beware, charged me anyway, RIPOFF

I agreed to try Credit Alert on a trial basis. I received their information packet and decided at that moment that we could not afford the service. I then chose not to look at or into what they had to offer. I made phone calls to cancel out before the end of the trial period. I believed that I was respected and released from a service I cared not to make use of. I keep trying. I yesterday received my bank statement. I was very disappointed to find that Credit Alert withdrew a large unaffordable ammount from my account. I called them today and it was extremely dissapointing to find I was not being honored my strong request. I was not heard that I do NOT and will not find their service a benefit.

I was also RIP-OFF by AOL

I had canceled an account with AOL in Nov. of 2001. This was a disk sent in the mail and I used my debit card for the transaction. In Nov. 2002, my checking account became over drafted. After checking, I found out that AOL was trying to take monies out of my account for something that I had canceled.

In January, I called and the customer billing person, could not find the account. I in turned called the FRAUD division. This person was able to find the account, but could not explained to me why they started taking monies out for an account that had been canceled. I told her that her company owed me for the overdrafts that my bank charged me and that since she could not tell me WHO, WHAT, and WHY, I wanted to speak to someone else. She told me that there was no one else, she was it. I gave her a few choice words and hung up.

It took me two additional trys to get this account credit. I called on the 3/13 and the guy canceled the account. I told him that the so call lady in the FRAUD division did that, he said that she did not. After I hung up on her, she stopped everthing. The guy told me that he would credit 48.50 and $15 back in two interments.

Well I only received the 48.50.
Today, I was told that they made a ruling and would only credit back two month, eventhough they took more from my account. I asked him to give me the name of the person over him. I was told that he could not give that out. He also told me that he could not send me a printout showing what they had done, nor a letter to that effect.

I told him that I will be getting my lawyer friend in on this. He ask me was I threating them with legal actions. I told him that I know that they do not record the calls and that that was my only recourse if only for $15. It's the princple of the matter. He HUNG up on me.

SO if anyone out there know how to contact the head person, just short of the AOL/Time Warner Corp., let me know.

After many problems with AOL I actually got a response from them. But this was after I contacted & filed a complaint with the Attorney General's office in the state where I live. If you have had numerous problems with them as I did, try the Attorney General. Things will change then I feel quite sure. It did for me. Also, file a complaing with The BBB in your state.

I tried their "free disk" deal also. As you know they must have a credit card number. I used my check card with Visa logo. I hated AOL. I could not access many websites and it was slow as well as the amount of spam. I cancelled the account. After 8 months, I wrote a check and it bounced. After a little checking I found that they scum bags had been taking $56 a month out of my account. After making 6 hours worth of calls to customer no-service I called their corporate offices in Herndon Va. I was told they could offer me some free service or they could refund 2 months worth of service. I told the guy I wanted to speak with then CEO Steve "the idiot" Case. This guy had told me that he was his supervisor but he refused to let me speak with him. I started in about how AOL was a sleazy company and how they stole money from me and I wanted it back. The guy actually called me an A-Hole and hung up. They did refund 2 months worth of service but refused to give anymore back. It just got to the point that it was no longer worth my time. However, since then I have convinced 4 people to cancel their service and get a real ISP. I figure I have cost those idiots some bucks. The idiots name at AOL corporate was Tony Lewis. So Tony, if you are listing...BYTE ME you rude arrogant customer no-service puke!!!

Today I checked my bank account and this is the THIRD time they've charged me $69.99. I let it go the first time, because I wasn't sure what the details of the agreement was...then the second time, I called to have them cancel it and they didn't. Now I'll have to call tomorrow and request to be removed again. This is ridiculous! I am outraged, I do know, however, that I would not sign up for something that they charge you $70 for every other month or however many times they charge you. On top of that, I don't even have the access to get my credit report from them!!! We need to get them, something needs to be done. I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one they did this to.
