In 1998 I agreed to try membership to AOL travelers advantage. I cancelled after a year. In 2002, out of the blue I was charged for services on a new account, an account that did not exist in 1998 when I agreed to travelers advantage, and an account that I never authorized AOL travelers advantage to use, an account that deducts directly from my checking and therefore would never authorize use of, and only use for personal needs which have been carefully budgeted (food, gas etc).

I immediately called and had the charges reversed, canceling my new, unauthorized membership. I was willing to write it off as a (less than) honest mistake, figuring I had called AOL on their fraud and that they would not dare try it again, and lo and behold a year later the amount of 79.99 was again applied to my checking account, the account I never authorized AOL to use.

The day this unauthorized charge of 79.99 came through on my already depleted checking account, four of the POS items I had out in the ether cam through on the same day and thus I accumulated $100.00 in overdraft fees in a single day due to their fraudulent charge. I am planning on filing criminal charges against them this time and am considering starting a class-action suit, if one has not already been started.
