I enrolled in 3/2005 in the Medical Billing and Coding program. Its an 11 month course costing a total of 10,000.00. The first class was 3/22 and I withdrew from the college on 5/31/05. A total of abt 71 days aproximately.

I received notification from a company called Global on behalf of Apollo College stating that I owed 4,899.00 and to contact Apollo Financial Aid Office. Who refered me to the corporate office to speak to someone else.

This person explained the charges were valid due to the fact that a contract was signed. My problem in all of this is I have no copy of this "contract" and I was never told that if I withdrew from Apollo College that I would be responsible for half of the 10,000. The reason I withdrew was to go to Phoenix College who is recognized by AHIMA, which is responsible for certifying the Medical Coders. Apollo College is not recognized by AHIMA with good reason. The teacher at Apollo College was not teaching anything. The school did not address students concerns regarding the teacher's teaching methods. This school is not a school for learning. Its a business only interested in making money. I was passing the classes which wasn't too hard. The grades were on a curve which the teacher decided based on how many students failed a test. Beware!

I recieved a copy of the signed contract. The contract shows the
refund policy. This matter has now been resolved to my satisfaction.

Is there a contract or not?

Do you not have a copy of this contract because you lost it, or is it because you never signed a contract?

The contract is everything. If you signed any paperwork with this college, which I assume you must have if you enrolled, then you need to review it carefully. I am sure you will find a financial responsibility agreement in there somewhere.

If somewhow you do not have a copy of this, then you should ask the college to provide you with a copy of it showing why you owe this money.

Good Luck.
