* Sold all of our furniture before the move so there was only a master bedroom (headboard, footboard, dresser, 2 nightstands, mattress/box springs), a dining table and chairs, a china hutch, and about 50 medium sized boxes.

* Took job knowing we had a spiral staircase at new house. Details were listed on contract, so we have proof they knew and accepted the job knowing. Confirmed the job by phone THREE TIMES, including the night before with their manager, who called SPECIFICALLY to discuss the staircase.

* We selected a value of $3000.00 of insurance for potential damages.

* Dropped and SHATTERED our $1800 headboard within 10 min of arrival. First thing they moved onto the truck. (We have a signed admission by the movers that they dropped and broke the headboard.)

* Took 2 hrs to load 2 rooms of furniture.

* Took smoke breaks on the clock.

* After all that, they refused to take furniture up spiral staircase at new house. Called boss (Randy, the owner).

* Boss tried to force us to pay $350 before unload AND sign a waiver of liability for damage, and an acceptance of liability for injury, or he would instruct his men to leave with our things on the truck.

* I refused; told him this was the first I'd heard of any such waiver; that I had told them about the staircase the day I booked the move, and that they were not going to break my only remaining furniture, take 2 hours to load 2 rooms, get all my things on their truck and THEN change the rules on me at the other end. He yelled (literally), "Look, either you sign it, or that's it!!" I told him not to get froggy with me or he could see me in court. He screamed, "Then see me in court!" and hung up.

* Had to pull my truck in front of theirs and call 911 for help.

* Cops arrived and threatened to take movers to jail for larceny if they left with our things. Owner of Apple, by phone again, yelled at the cops for 20 minutes (as indicated by the sergeant's voice growing louder and louder, telling him what the deal was, that my truck was in front of theirs, that he would not make me move it, that their moving van would NOT leave with our things and would NOT stay on our property for 30 days, as threated by Randy).

* Randy threatened to show up at the location, the sergeant called in the threat, and more cops arrived to wait. He never showed.

* After the hour long argument btwn cop and owner of Apple, men finally unloaded things to garage only and were paid by my husband in the amount of $200.

* Had to move things in ourselves, but the dresser is still in garage 6 days later because it is too heavy for us to move, esp up spiral stairs, which is why we hired movers in the first place.

We have sent them a certified letter listing our damages and formally making a claim, as per the instructions on their contract. If they don't reply or pay, we will be calling lawyer to collect for headboard / breech of contract.

I am betting the latter is going to be necessary.
