Complaint Review: Apposite Apps

Apposite Apps Cam Craig, President -- iPhone app developer, paid deposit $875, he worked on it then suddenly stopped communicating with no reason given, still soliciting new business, did not respond to BBB Scarborough, Ontario

I engaged Cam Craig, an iPhone app developer (Apposite Apps) to make an app. We met in person, he made a good impression, and I paid him 1/2 up front, with a contract. Half way through the development, he suddenly and with no warning stopped communicating with me, returning neither emails nor phone calls.

I was actually thinking of calling hospitals to see if he was okay, but decided first to send an enquiry soliciting new business through his website from my wife's email address, to see if he'd reply. He responded promptly, asking to set up a meeting.

I filed a BBB complaint and he didn't reply to them. I contacted Apple to have him release some app names he had reserved for me, and he did so at their request (I guess he had to).

I don't understand this kind of ripoff, since he is an app developer and could have had the second half of the payment if he'd only finished the job.

I was considering going to small claims court ($75 fee, good money after bad) when I learned that a friend of mine has a collections company. She offered to call him and said she could have his credit rating affected if he didn't respond. So guess what, he responded. He even admitted to her that he was planning to stonewall me forever. So here's my advice: cut to the chase, get a collector on the job. They charge 10% of the amount but you only pay if they succeed.

I'm still very angry with the guy for putting me through this and think he should pay more, but it's satisfying to know he's been forced to cop to the charge. Good luck with yours.
