I signed up for the 7 day trial for Archives.com. They did not mention One Great Family when I signed up for Archives.com. I forgot to cancel before the 7 days passed. Then Archives.com put 2 charges on my account. One for $39.95 and one for $59.88. When I asked them what the charges were for, they said one was for Archives.com and the other was for One Great Family. This is $100 against my account!

I read the internet for people who were unhappy with archives.com and I found that others had canceled within the 7 day trial period and still got billed!

If this company was reputable, they would send an email before your 7 day trial was up. And they would send an email telling you they were going to charge your account and what the charges are for.

They take your credit card number before you can sign up for the 7 day free trial. In hind sight I see that this should have been a big red warning flag to me. It's not free if you have to give payment information.

In their terms and services they state that the subscription charges are non refundable. If you cancel early you don't get any part of your subscription charge refunded. Another red flag.

Just be forewarned to not do business with this company. Unless you don't mind having $100 dollars deducted from your charge accounts, stay far far away from them. There are plenty of other sites doing genealogy, you can get the information you need without Archives.com.

Received refund for One Great Family

Some good news on my experience with Archives.com. They refunded the $59.88 for the One Great Family subscription that I never knowingly signed up for. I've read other reviews on this site and the consensus is their information is the information is not worth the money. There are better sites out there and some of the information found on Archives.com can be found for free. So just be aware before you try. In hind sight I won't ever try out a site if they ask for my credit card number up front. If their product is really good, a true free trial will bring people back, but this company tries to take advantage of people.
