A Macbook pro was listed for $390 on craigslist. When I requested more information I was sent this email:
Hi, I am getting back to you regarding the 15" MacBook Pro from
Craigslist
My name is Arianna and I am now in Wolverhampton, United
Kingdom.
I am selling the 15" MacBook Pro, with 2.2 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2 Gb
memory, 220 Gb HD for $350 USD. I have attached some pics so you can see the
condition of the laptop. If you want I can send some more pics.
The laptop is
still available and I hope you are still interested. This Macbook Pro was ordered
brand new directly from Apple on Feb, 2008.
About the laptop I can say it is
in good shape, no scratches, no dents as you can see from the pics I've sent.
Included in the $350 price is everything the laptop came with when it was
new.
The laptop is here with me.
I tried to be a thorough as I could with
the presentation so you can have all the info if you decide to go ahead and buy
it.
I have used the laptop mostly for internet browsing and presentations, so
I would say it has been only lightly used.
The laptop has the Leopard and
Vista OS, the iLife 09 and the MS Office with the original recovery disks
included.
One more thing, the laptop is an US version and it works on the US
power and plug system so you do not need a converter to use it in the US.
Please get back to me and let me know if you like the laptop if you're
really interested in buying it.
Thanks,
Arianna Livingstone
I did not realize at first that it was scam, and when I asked if I would pay through paypal "she" replied:
I can't accept payment via paypal because my paypal account is linked to my US bank account. And it would cost me an arm and a leg to transfer the funds here. I found a way to sell you the laptop that will cover the both of us. It's a worldwide delivery company called TNT. They have a service that will allow you to test the laptop before I receive my payment.
Shipping is on me.
After some research I found that this a common way that people get scammed, and they have even used the name "Arianna Livingstone" before.
Don't trust things on craigslist that seem too good to be true. Also, if something is listed in your area and you get a response saying the seller is now in the UK, it is a SCAM.
