Complaint Review: ARROW GAS

Arrow Gas Propane of MA, RI is charging well over $5.00, even $6.00, per gallon for Propane fuel.  Local Market median is currently 3.38.  This should serve as a reminder to consumers to ensure they're shopping around for the best prices rather than trusting a service company that youve used for years.  

Arrow Gas promotes a "step" program that, in theory,  affords the consumer a discount that varies with your total gallons purchased per year.  Arrow Gas is currently charging  6.20 per gallon (09/2011).  After 300 gallons, your cost decreases to $5.85.  Again, local market average is currently $3.38.  The step programs highest discount is still higher than other providers standard costs.

Sadly, the step program also seems... well, corrupt.    I've held a standing order for 50 gallons for 6 deliveries for the past few years.  This method should meet the 300 gallon minimum requirement for the company's first (insignificant) discount. 

Our last delivery, in June of 2011, totaled 48.9 gallons (bringing the gauge to 70%)

Rummaging through our past invoices, we've discovered the following trend:  In 2010 we received 293 total gallons.  In 2009, we received 293 gallons.  In those years, due to the fact that we received less than 300 gallons, we paid approximately $6.20 a gallon instead of the $5.85 a gallon promised with our committment of 300 gallons. 

So, in addition to the $1694 overpaid on price per gallon versus local market median, Arrow Gas Propane, using their own pricing model, still managed to overcharge us $0.35 a gallon for 2 and half years (considering weve received 261 gallons so far this year.) 

In other words, the 847 gallons of gas weve received should have cost 4954.95, but instead cost 5,251.40.  If we had used a company with integrity and ethical pricing models, we would have paid $3260.55.  Steer clear of Arrow Gas.  Tell your friends.
