i received a letter from Arvest advertising their low interest rates, as low as 6.9%, for debt consolidation loans.  It sounded good, coming from a bank, so I added up some debt that I was carrying, and called them.  I asked for a $21,000 loan for 60 months.  After many questions, and a couple of long hold periods, the young lady on the phone come back and told me that, "congratulations, you are approved for a loan of $21,000 for 36 months at 13.99% interest rate."  I couldn't believe my ears.  I told her, you must be mistaken, ma'am, I have Fico Scores above 750 up to 800.  Why would you charge me 13.99% interest?  Well, she said, I can give you a 10.99% rate if you approve a 24 month loan.  I said ma'am, the only loan I will accept is a loan for 60 months, and at a rate no more than 8%.  She said, "No one gets 60 month loans."  I said, "Then why does your advertising literature show 60 month loans?"  The CSR was silent.  She then very aggressively began to try to sell her loan program.  I asker her why, with my credit scores, I could not get offered a lower interest rate.  She said that I had a 91% utilization rate, which was completly untrue.  My utilization rate, which is figured as a percentage of what I owe based on what my total credit lines are, is less than 20%.  These people are bait and switch operators, advertizing very low teaser rates on long term loans, and only offering short term high rate loans.  Consumers be warned, when you get an advertisement from Arvest, run it through the shredder.
