Aspire Visa Aka Providian ripoff increasing rates on closed account Atlanta Georgia
I was notified by letter in November 2003 that my Providian acct was now being run by Aspire. They informed me that they would be sending me a new card.
While waiting for my new card, I tried to make a payment online, like I always did. I was unable so I called Providian to find out why. They no longer recognized my acct through Providian and said I needed my new acct number.
When I got my new card, I again tried to make an online payment. It used to be free to make a payment online, now I was being informed that if I made an online payment, my acct would be charged $15.I also needed to activate my card which was going to be $35. Upon activation, I was going to be charged another $35 annual fee.
I called the company and spoke with a representative. Very rudely he told me that he could not discuss my acct with me until I activated my new card. I told him I was getting really disgusted with all their new practices and I would close my acct if I didn't get any satisfaction. I had my acct through Providian for 7 years and always paid ontime, never late. Now I was being charged to make a payment and I felt I was being ripped off with all these new charges.
He told me I wouldn't be able to make a payment unless I activate my new card, whether I closed the acct or not. So I was forced to activate it, but did not close it at that time.
A few days later, I went to charge $45 on my card and it was denied. I did not understand why since I knew I had $900 available credit. I called the company again and found out that my available credit was $0. I waited to speak to a real person and he said that since I was late with my payment they had to deny credit. I was pissed! An acct that I was only three days late on and only because I did not get my new card in time to activate it so I could use it. This company has got you coming and going! It was then that I closed the acct.
When I received my first statement from them, I noticed that they raised my rate. I have been making my payments every month and my February statement now reflects an interest rate of 29%
I am so frustrated with this credit company. Since we just purchased a house in Sept. I am having trouble trying to transfer this balance to another acct. At those rates, I wil never get this paid off.
Isn't there anything that can stop this company from ripping consumers off? I started out with my Providian as a secured card and built it up to a point where I was able to switch to an unsecured. I have improved my credit over the past several years and now this company is going to put me right back where I started.
I hate them!

I found sticking with a Credit Union and applying for a card with them is by far the best choice.
They have Low Low rates usually under 10% and ratherly do they go higher.
I have never heard of a credit card that charged 38% and am shocked by what I am reading.
The rate they are going they make sure you do not pay your card off!~
Please checl out credit unions in your area.
Talk with them and open an account now!
I hope all of you get away from this Parasitte
