I received notice that I would be taken to court for a Providian credit card debt. I called the collection agency and told them I would make payments of $150 a month until the $650 debt was paid off.

I sent them two months payments and then lost my job. I sent them a check for $50 and a letter stating that I would be paying less until I was re-employed.

Next thing I know I get a letter from the court saying they have been awarded the full debt (no mention of the 400 I had already paid) plus court costs bringing the $650 to $1800.

When I was re-employed I deposited my paycheck in the bank only to have it seized by the lein they had on my account.

I'm receiving frequent calls (a dozen a week) in regards to the $800 I still owe on what should have been a $250 debt.
