This is my first time writing a complaint on Ripoff Report, but the public needs to be warned. I am a long term unemployed single mom. I have looking for work and wasting a lot of gasoline putting in applications everywhere. I'm at wit's end. So, I decided to do the unthinkable and answer a telemarketing/appointment setter ad off of www.craigslist.org. here in Phoenix, AZ. The person who hired me appears to be some sort of mafia type and nobody to cross. I actually thought I had entered into a seedy night club. I found out that he is third from the boss whose name is "Lance" and no longer works at the physical location of the business address. I was asked if I had call center experience, which I do. I was told to come to "work" the next day at 9:15 am and bring two forms of ID. The work day is 9:30 to 6:00 M-F. The building where the telemarketing SCAM is located is on the third, fourth and fifth floors. There are several small rooms on the third floor, which contain 6-8 computers and headsets.

Okay, so I show up with 4 other people the next morning. We had to wait for applications to be run off. By the time I received my application, I was thrust in front of a computer. I had to finish completing the application in between live calls. I didn't even know what script I was reading and learned it over the course of the day. The application said that I was "an independent contractor" working on commission for "Assisting US Jobs". The computer and headset are for rent at $1.00 per week, totaling $4.00 per month. If you decide to break the computer or headset, you had to sign and agree to pay for it. I was told nothing about how to use the computer, what to press, when to say what. Things happened so fast. Well, I was told to "just read the script".

The main information to extract from the caller is if they have a credit card/debit card in good standing and if the person currently employed, meaning, the person can afford to pay what the company has to sell the caller. Okay, so before I sat at the computer terminal one full hour, I had reigned in a poor soul who had money and was educated. He was agreeable to everything I read from the script. I had done my part and "rolled" the caller "over" to the audio tape that explains in detail how the caller "can make money!" From that point a closer gets on the phone and sells the caller an LLC here in Arizona, which makes money for the state of Arizona, and that there are "packages" the caller can purchase, anywhere from $319 to $499. The closer will real in the call by saying he is authorized to offer a $100 company discount and the caller only has to pay $219! What a great business opportunity thiis is!! The poor sap decided to purchase the LLC.

So, I had "rolled" the caller and the closer "closed" the deal. What this meant is that I would receive a $100 commission for that call and the closer would receive their commission. The closer had several people hang up on him, which means neither the roller or the closer gets commission. One caller was berated so badly, the caller decided to agree with everything the closer had to say. Once the closer has the information from the caller, including the almighty credit card/debit card number, the information must be "verified" by a third party. The third party is just some other telemarketer/closer that's been there a while. So the closer told the caller to hold on for verification and by then the number two boss came to computer to verify and the caller hung up. Praise God! By 3:30 pm I was ready to go but stayed until 6:00 pm for fear of the person who hired me making a big scene and an example out of me. During the course of the eight hour shift I was able to "roll over" 3 more people to the audio tape, but there were no more "closed" sales.

During the entire work day, there is loud seedy night club music pulsating. The place is dimmly lit and there is no credit check, background check or drug test done conducted on the employees/independent contractors who are "hired". The dude sitting next to me said he "just got outta prison". I wanted to scream. The caliber of persons working there are the following: whatever comes out at night, esp. pimps, wh*res, strippers; brothel workers; ex-convicts; and lo and behold, dope feeeeenss. The long term telemarketer calling you is either one or a combination of the aforementioned. When 6:00 pm came, I left in the midst of everyone. On the way down the hall, the men's bathroom door flew open, a fellow "co-worker" was standing in front of the mirror with his hands in front of his face holding a wound up toilet paper in his left nostril. Need I say more? He may have been calling you! I did not go back. I did not collect any commission and I am so sorry to the poor sap who bought this sh*t.

When a telemarketer calls your home, say the following: "Place my name on the DNC, Do Not Call List!" You do not have to say please or thank you either, then hang up as fast as possible. Do not open up your wallet!!!
