I purchased a temporary health insurance policy from Assurant Health. I then had a procedure done at my doctor's office. Assurant Health would not cover my claim.

The fine print about pre-existing conditions was buried on page 7 of a 28 page PDF (written in legalize by insurance company lawyers), which stated it wouldn't cover medical treatment or advice from a provider within a FIVE-YEAR period immediately preceding the Effective Date of coverage, regardless of whether the condition was diagnosed or NOT diagnosed.
Had this information not been buried in the small print and clearly stated, I NEVER would have paid for a policy with a 5-year pre-existing clause.

The reason pre-existing conditions aren't clearly stated up front with other very important information (i.e. deductibles, prescription drugs, office calls, hospital stays) about your policy is, it a HUGE loop for insurance companies when it is time to pay your claim.

When my doctor's office called Assurant Health THEIR representative told them if I had ever been diagnosed with high blood pressure, then had a heart attack, the heart attack WOULND'T be covered.

Insured people make their payments in good faith, only to find that the health insurance company's number one goal is to not pay your claims.

I am now facing a $5000 doctor bill.
