I have been with Geico for over 15 years for my car insurance.  I needed renter’s insurance and they recommended Assurant (American Bankers Insurance of Florida). I was with Assurant for a little more than 10 years. I had to file a claim due to water damage in my storage unit.  My claim was denied because they said that this was not covered.  Let see….water, damage, fire, theft….what do they cover? I was livid and filed a complaint with the Florida Insurance Commission.  But nothing came of it.  There isn’t anything this organization will do now.   I also contacted Geico as well.  Geico said that there was nothing they could do.

I cancelled my policy with Assurant back in 2013 but guess what? They have continually taken money out of my account without my authorization.  I cancelled this policy! I received an email on February 3, 2014 saying that they will withdraw $49.32 from my account.  I contacted my bank (Bank of America) who said that there was nothing I could do I would have to do a stop payment which would cost me $30.00.  However when I sent them the request I also sent the following:

“I am writing to request that you stop Assurant Specialty Property from making future automatic withdrawals from my checking account. These charges are unauthorized. I canceled my contract in writing with Assurant Specialty Property in February 2013.

The Federal Reserve's rules governing pre-authorized transfers (part of Regulation E) states the following: "Once a financial institution has been notified that the customer's authorization is no longer valid, it must block all future payments for the particular debit transmitted by the designated payee-originator."

I would appreciate your immediate compliance with this federal law. Please contact me if you have any further questions.”

Here’s the fact:

  • GEICO is recommending a company to their policy holders that is of low moral turpitude.
  • Assurant will collect premiums but they won’t pay claims.
  • Bank of America won’t stop this company from automatic withdrawls.

I was looking on their website and saw the following:

It should say:

Where is the consumer protection?  Who is looking out for us?  Why are companies able to defraud us?  There is more protection set up for the corporation than the consumer.

I wrote Bank of America and informed them that this company is not authorize to debit my account…but guess what on 2/10/14 Bank of America allowed this company to take $49.32 out of my account. I need someone to help me. Assurant, Bank of America and GEICO are dangerously ripping off people.  I am going to create a website and I want everyone that has been scammed by these companies to email me.  Together we can take our power back!

We need an attorney to create a class action lawsuit again GEICO, Bank of America and Assurant.

Update: On 2/10/14 Bank of America allowed Assurant to debit $49.32 out of my account.

My next stop is Clark Howard!
