I have a renters policy with Assurant via Geico. In Feb I had a burglary in my home that was both devastating financially and emotionally. Mind you this is the first insurance claim I have EVER filed in my lifetime. Upon completion of the obvious steps calling the police asking around to neighbors about anything seen/heard - I filed my claim, all on the internet per company policy. My assigned adjuster contacted me the following Monday to review the claim. She told me point blank that if I didn't have actual receipts for ALL the items listed they would not pay. I explained to her I use the receipt scanning software to digitally organize my affairs in my PC (you've seen it on TV). But unfortunately THAT PC WAS STOLEN. Then during our "recorded statement" said that photos, manuals, bank statements etc were acceptable items to "Prove ownership". Needless to say I was confused so I ask her again and she stated "Your policy clearly states you must have receipts". Upon my own research I discovered that receipts were NOT the only form of acceptable proof of ownership. So I spent many hours gathering old manuals and sorting through family photos to prove I owned these items. I faxed approx 150 pages of documentation to these people at $1.00 per page at Office Depot. My adjuster calls me after 30 days of no relies or responses to left messages and states her manager demands more proof of ownership and if I cant provide receipts they will not pay. Again asking for things they KNOW I cant provide. Upon my pointing out that what she was doing was in bad faith... she hung up on me. I finally got ahold of her manager who told me my case was now being forwarded for "investigation". Why? Because I was asking for the service they promised to deliver? And now all the sudden because I called them on their various lies? He would not answer my questions and became very combative toward me saying someone will call you in a few days to ask you some questions. I believe these people will use whatever they can to make you feel like a criminal for using the service you pay for. I have consulted legal consul and they said if this course continues I could be entitled to treble damages. (Which is 3x your original claim amount). Either way this Co. SUCKS.

Assurant Mentions RIP OFF REPORT & Used FAKE websites for pricing

Still fighting with these people. The investigation went through fine, but I only received partial payment. Upon relentlessly redundant questioning about all the items in my claim they decided to only pay me for "a few" of the items listed. So I was basically given third degree on items they NEVER intended to pay for. On top of that they priced out items with cash values from MADE UP STORES. Yeah you read that right....after investigating me like a criminal my adjusters used prices from something called "purchasegoodz.com" These are apparently the stupidest people on the planet, cause they also sent me the above fact IN WRITING. A quick search on Whose IP is this will show this website domain has been expired since Dec. of 2011.... So when I question her about it she says it was just an error.... ok so everything I do was questioned but my intentions were 100% legit... she uses an ACTUAL FAKE WEBSITE and its an error... look for yourself. When you google purchasegoodz.com the first 3 pages of results are for scams/ripoffs. Its completely impossible to even be an error... considering the domain was expired MONTHS before I even filed a claim. Had I done anything even remotely similar to this they would have accused me of fraud. But it was just an "error"... Mmmmm Hmmmm. And to have the balls to actually list it as her source is amazingly ignorant. I'm going to stop asking people how stupid they can be, I think they're starting to consider it a challenge.

Anyway I called just today and my adjuster stated "you think using that website is going to help you?" I naturally was confused and said "Excuse me?" She said you posted all over ripoffreport about us. I couldn't help but laugh at her. As if my rights as a consumer to complain are in anyway related to my claim. And she said "I wont go there." I laughed again and stated I'm pretty sure you already did. I advised her not only have I posted here - but also with the BBB and the insurance commission. Its hilarious every time I talk to them they give me more evidence for bad faith. If they were smart they would just settle and be done with me.
