Subject: Cancellation of my 10 year health policy

Assurant Health / Time is my insurance carrier . I filed a complaint with The State Of Illinois Insurance Department and was left with the realization that I had been scammed, mislead and rip-offed with the State's blessing,

I have an Assurant Individual Health Policy for 10 years now, I faithfully paid premiums on time, only to have Assurant Health non-renew my policy and force me to take a different policy loaded with exclusions and language to avoid paying claims that wre previously covered, This came with a 25 percent premium increase to 1286.00 monthly 55 year old male / 54 old female, an extra 13,700 in deductible/coinsurance exposure, 8 extra pages of exclusions and a new clause that "this policy can be non-renewed anytime we want with 30 days notice" None of this language existed on my previous policy, and the fact that my policy could be canceled at anytime was never disclosed upon purchase of my original policy, which turned out to be temporary policy in light of the States blessing to make my policy non-renewable by allowing Assurant Health to discontinue my so called "guaranteed renewable policy" anytime they want by just a simple notification to The State Of Illinois with no customer protection at all.. The only barrier in the way? Give all customers a 90 day notice!

I overpaid on my health policy thinking that i had a "guaranteed renewable policy" I paid over 60,000 in premiums in 10 years with less than a 1,000 in paid claims, this is going to be the first year i will be using my policy to pay claims, Assurant Health knew these claims were coming up and now are now skillfully non-renewing policies that are not favorable to their bottom line, even though my past 60,000 investment sits in their pockets. They have also managed to avoid personal discrimination claims regarding past health information by discriminating against a "pool" of individuals in their cancellation of Form 225 One Deductible Plan. This is a classic "bait & switch" done with the states blessing by manipulating and exploiting one-sided interpretations of Health insurance laws that seem to be written ambiguously for just such an exploitation. Why should i continue to work when i am facing a minimum of 35,000 out of pocket health costs this year? there is plenty of help available to people in poverty and the wealthy among us seem to be insulated from this dilemma, where is the advocacy and/or protection for people in my situation? It does not exist, my biggest enemy? Government... they allow these abuses by Health Insurance companies, 401k Administrators, etc. etc

If we had a nationalized public option plan, the insurance companies could not get away with ripping off consumers, like they have been for over 40 years.....

Clarification?

I have read your complaint and I am confused on a few points.

- You stated that your policy was "non-renewed" and that your premium was raised 25% on a different policy. What was the name of your previous policy and what is your current policy?

- You also stated that you were about to use the policy to pay claims. Are you suffering from a specific condition or disorder?

As far as your policy being "guaranteed renewable", I have never seen a guaranteed renewable policy from Assurant.

Please clarify these issues and I would be more than happy to help you in any way I can.
