Complaint Review: AT&T

AT&T ATT Celular Will not honor their documents, additional charges on account, bill is 8x what was agreed upon (with documented proof) and they now call it "misinformation" Portland Oregon Nationwide

Att continually adds fees to my bill that are hard to understand and difficult to track where they come from.  I have them on call because every month there are additional "fees and charges"

Recently prior to going abroad I called them to notify them of the countries I would be visiting, requested changes to my plan to accomodate the international plan for the time I would be away.  Because I dont trust them and what they say, I had the representative send me documentation of the changes to the plan and the cost. (hard proof) The additional cost agreed upon was $50.  When I return and receive my bill : $359.35.

So I call them. Notify them of the call being recorded, and they refuse to honor they agreement (that I have hard proof of the agreement) and state that the charges still apply.  I tell them the charges are not agreed upon and they are a breach of what they told me and provided documents of.  They called it "mis information" that I received.  I offered to email the docuemnts to them that ATT sent to me, they declined and said they did not have an email address I could send it to, and thus, the charges of $359.35 stand.  I tell them I am canceling my account now, and they say I have a $250 Early Termination fee.  The account is being canceled because they dishonor their agreed prices, then when I want to cancel my account because they are dishonest.... they want to charge me.

I am now on hold with them for 1:31.02 at this time.  A complaint has been submited to BBC for resolution of the matter.

The company is dishonest, crooked, and sends anyone who questions them through hoops until they become frustrated and go away.

That is exactly what I am doing.  Going away.  Good by ATT.

I would like to see the proof you said you have (the document) and the detail of charges they did in that month.

You simply said the other person is making assumption yet do not want to show the proof. The roaming charge could be from cellphone and/or data usage. Turning the data roaming off does not stop the cellphone usage roaming services. Besides, using the phone outside of the country does not count toward the minutes on the plan in the U.S.

That's the reason why readers (including myself) want to see the charge detail in the month you mentioned and the document sent by the AT&T person you talked to. Then with both evidence, the readers would be able to determine whose (you or AT&T) claims would be correct.

Your argument is based on an assumption

Just like the person above, you are jumping on the bandwaggon assuming the charge's origins, then hurl insult and acusation based on a false asumption.  All of the accusations are invalid because they are based on a false asumption.

Lets review:

"You do realize that the additional costs are more then likely from ..."

"MOST LIKELY...."

So you dont know for sure.  Do you?

In addition to turning off Roaming, your statments are based off a single ASSUMPTION.  (That is to assume, and in this case - incorrectly )

"Did you perhaps forget that there is roaming? Odds are..."

There it is.  "Odds are.."  and then you continue on your dicourse hurling acusation after acusation falsely, all held up by  your false asumption.

iPhone 5. It has some cool features.  One of them is turning off Data Roaming to avoid such a circumstance.  Check it out. Settings->General->Cellular, Data Roaming - OFF

Another cool feature: You can turn Celualr Data OFF and use WiFi only - unless there is an emegncy - which there wasn't and Data Remained OFF for the duration of the trip.

Check it out:

Settings>General>Cellular>Cellular Data>Off

So my statments above stand.

I believe that is it possible that the above critique is from an employee of Att. This comes from the observation that they have used and aggressive tone and ignored facts reported. Their tone coupled with their "retelling" the narrative with assumed information ignores the fact that the customer stated they called to discuss the phone plan with Att and that at the time it should be understood by the service person that the customer was talking about "all" fees they would incur on the trip. It is the responsibility of the service provider to fully disclose any and all fees that are to be charged.

Did you perhaps forget that there is roaming? Odds are that you were roaming when you made a few calls. ATT has contracts with most of the major carriers. Even those in other countries. But ATT has ZERO control over where and when you make the calls when traveling outside of the states. The 50$ you paid was for the ability to make calls from another country, but that wouldnt change the FACT that not every cellphone tower is owned by ATT or a company that ATT has a contract with. This means that you WILL get roaming charges and YOU are responsible for those. ATT is not going to eat YOUR roaming charges no matter how much you whine about it.

ATT did not make the calls on YOUR device, YOU DID. ATT did not force you to make calls in areas that were roaming. Then you cancel your contract with them. Thereby getting the ETF. You know at some point youre going to have to stop hurting yourself. This is ALL your doing. You made the calls, you used the phone, you cancelled the contract. How is ATT responsible for ANY of this situation??

You do realize that the additional costs are more then likely from roaming in non att supported towers. Its funny how ppl like yourself tend to IGNORE the little things LIKE roaming. ATT CANNOT control WHERE you use the phone. The 50$ addition to your plan was for the ability to make and recieve calls in a country that is NOT the US. If you called in areas that ATT doesnt have a contract in, then YOU will be charged those roaming fees. Amazing how I am able to figure this out, but then again Im not a self entitled little twit, and I dont work for them nor am I a ATT customer. Its called common sense, which IS a super power in todays society.

Its real simple, ATT is NOT going to eat YOUR roaming charges. To expect them to do so is the ultimate in self entitlment. Then when you dont get the "Thank you sir shall we bend over for you somemore" out of them, you proceed to cancel your contract compounding how much YOU owe. Im betting you didnt even read the terms and conditions of your contract. In the body of that contract that YOU signed it clearly states that ANY addition charges while using your device in a country that is considered international, YOU will be expected to pay. Its in EVERY cellphone contract, it doesnt matter which carrier and Ive had them all.

So ATT is ONLY charging YOU what THEY were charged for you using your device in a roaming area. Not every cellphone tower is a ATT and ATT has to sign contracts with the owners of the towers in order for YOU to use your device there. Each time you checked your email, text messages, played Angry Birds, you were racking up the charges. If anything this SHOULD be a eye opener for you. Its YOUR use of the device that is costing you this much money. ATT is only passing on those charges to the individual that used the phone/data. AND THATS YOU!

Oh and not to put too fine a point on this, but you may be screwing yourself over. If you think that these GIANT cell companies dont talk with each other, then you would be delusional. Dont think that you will be able to skate out on one bill with ATT without consiquences. If you do skip out on it, ATT will report you to the credit companies and that will mean a MUCH higher deposit from the next carrier you go through.
