Since At&t has merged with Cingular I have tried to buy a new phone. I was told all the At&t phones were depleated and the only way to get a new phone was to migrate over to Cingular.

I don't want to migrate over, because I would get the same plan I have for $20.00 more a month.

I'm being forced to change in order to get new phones because cingular phones won't work eith my sims card.

My At&t contract said I would recieve discounts on phones and a free phone every year. Now thats not going to happen.

Cingular says they are honoring our At&T contracts but they are not. I fact they are forcing use to switch and pay more and in my book thats exstortion and thats against the law in this country.

I think that this crap and I somehow feel that we the consumer are not getting the whole story

I am experiencing the same thing. We have three lines with AT&T (now Cingular). Two of the lines are now not working well and we JUST signed a 2 year contract with AT&T. Cingular says the solution (the ONLY solution) is to buy a new phone and that will force me to get a new plan (at a MUCH higher price). This is absolutely ridiculous. Before we renewed with AT&T we were going to switch to Cingular (this was in November of 04) and oddly enough at that time they could have used all three of our existing phones. Now they are telling me that the two phones that aren't working right are not "Cingular" phones. The consumer is really taking the brunt of this one. So companies can get out of their contracts but if we try to it's $175 per disconnect. I think that this crap and I somehow feel that we the consumer are not getting the whole story - something smells quite fish about this whole thing. Your best bet is going to be to hit e-bay or the cell phone companies online and buy directly from them.
