Back in or about 1998 I signed up with AT&T mobile to give my wife an emergency mobile phone. The original contract was for one year at $17.95 for 52 anytime minutes. Even with the increase to $25.95 and god awful restrictions for calling area and roaming charges, I never once complained and paid all my bills on time every month. Recently ( March 2012 )  AT&T sent a letter stating that if I didn't upgrade my phone to a newer phone that I would lose my service. After reading all the nightmares about "shared data" and data plans and paying ANYWAY for unwanted data usage I decided to cancel the service. I sent a note along with the bill to AT&T to cancel my service asap. The next month my bill came with a note stating that I couldn't cancel by note that I had to call AT&T at a toll free number, so I did. In that month February 2013 the phone was useless. No tones no access no bars, but with power. My wife inadvertantly paid the bill and I asked for a refund. I was told by the AT&T rep that in anycase I would have to pay for the month after the disconnect ... ? I said "Well ok, accept the last payment for a nonfunctioning service as payment and cancel my account. He agreed. Now I am getting ever increasing bills from AT&T. I finally called "Customer Service" and informed them that I would never NEVER pay AT&T another dime as long as I live and they can bill until there were no trees left on the earth !  Why is this allowed to happen? Ok so my credit is damaged, so what? I always pay cash most of the time anyway. I long for the day when I read the headline; "THE PRESIDENT HAS ORDERED THE FBI TO ROUND UP ALL AT&T OFFICERS, LOBBIESTS, LEGAL COUNCIL, AND BANKING, AND CONGRESSIONAL SUPPORTERS TO BE LEAD TO AN UNDISCLOSED LOCATION WHERE THEY WILL ALL BE HUNG SLOWLY BY THE NECK UNTIL DEAD" Oh what a blessed day that will be. Too many good Americans are suffering because the communications companies are allowed to plunder our financial resourses at will. Truth has no place in society anymore. Everything is legel, no matter what you do, you can always grease a palm to get what you want, that is, unless you work for an honest living. Then you're just a "Social Joke" , a Lamb for these groups of parasites ! That means you too Mr. Fat Congressman, MR FCC Chairman, MR. ICC Chairman....ALL OF YOU ARE CO_CONSPIRITORS !

You believe anything on media?

I could see how frustrated you are dealing with this type of coporation, but blaming what they do wrong on another subject is another story. I am not in huge flavor for the current political administration but I will never believe anything from any media either. The government may have authority to regulate businesses, but that does not guarantee that the problem will be eliminated because there is always a loop hole to be exploited. Media like to exaggerate a story especially on the headline, so they can sell their news. If you believe on whatever the headline you quoted, then it is your problem.

When you deal with this type of coporation, you must understand and try to calm down. The frustration won't get you anywhere but even more frustration. The other side of the line also has nothing to do with your problem because the person has no authority nor care for your problem. The person simply follows the script and will reject you if you shows anger on the phone. Also, some customer representatives are better than others, so it depends on your luck to get to talk to. I found that even the worst representative could still help me if I stay calm and nice to him/her.
