I went to Atlas to have my back checked. And they explained their so called procedure. Then they took my x-rays, and didn't explain why their price was high, and plus I never had an x-ray before so I thought that it was normal. Then the next day, My boss said that, that it's awfully high to pay for x-rays (450.00. So I called the chiro and they said the reason their price was high, was because they're "specialists". Bull, I called other chiros in the area, and they charge a lot less.

Then, they said my insurance was going to cover me and reimburse me. They are a participating partner for Blue Cross. So I'm waiting for my check from the insurance, and I get a letter stating that they only sent part of the claim! I paid 450.00 for their stupid services, and they only send a 280.00 claim. Can you believe this from a doctor!

I work in the medical field and just looked at what our contracted rate is for x-rays for Blue Cross and an entire spine series (cervical, thoracic, lumbar and lumbosacral)is $212.50. So even if we billed $280.00, we will still only get $212.50.

Unless you had either not met your annual deductible or have a plan that only pays 60% or went out of network, you shouldn't have to pay anything. We NEVER make a patient pay up front if they have valid, verifiable insurance. It is the provider's responsibility to verify coverage, copayments, etc. In addition to reporting him to Blue Cross, please also notify your state board of Chiropractic, as they frown upon such practices.

Report this to your insurance company

If the chiropractor is within network, that it, a listed, contracted provider for your insurance plan, he cannot charge more than the contracted rate, which is probably the $280.00 he actually billed your insurance company. If he did charge you above the contracted rate, they can immediately remove him as a network provider.

Definitely something fishy if he only billed the insurance company a portion of what he told you the cost would be. That is why people need to carefully examine their Explantion of Benefits (EOB), which shows clearly what the allowable rate is per the provider's contract versus what they billed. Keep whatever evidence you have that you were charged considerably more and send this to your insurance company ASAP.

I just filed a report on Glenn Neiderhiser-a Chiropractor in the Bloomsburg area-he was sued recently and decided to try and start a home improvement business and possibly sell his practice-he ripped us off and took terrible advantage of our trust in him because he was a Doctor. I thought they had a Code of Ethics to follow-perhaps not. So apparently he was no more trustworthy as a Chiropractor than he is in his home improvement endeavors. Insurance companies do not like to pay out-period. That is why so many Doctors inflate their fees. If they are not panel providers(meaning if they will not accept just what the insurance company pays)then you have to make up the difference. It sucks, doesn't it? Seems like the world is full of nothing but liars and cheats.
