ATLAS FINANCIAL TRUST INC. WE're suspicious about getting a check, then they wanted to wire money to a "tax agent" using the check sent with the letter. We called the better business bureau who were suspicious so did a web search and came to this site and almost by verbatium read a complaint about this company. Why would a company saying you won something need to pay an agent before you get the award? Chatham Ontario
This is concerning RE:Winning final notification, claim #AFT/CA-0011 from Atlas Financial Trust, International claim dept, 1-647-893-4621 saying I won a Shoppers Sweepstakes held March 5,2008 for $250,000. Enclosed was a check for $4,875 thru Century bank, Sarasota, Florida, As stated above, they wanted to wire $2,975 to tax agent either by monetgram or western union directly, to call 1-647-893-4621 before depositing the check. I worked for 2 days and before I could do this my roomate called better business buraeu and get info on this company to no avail so web search got us here at this site, will call to discuss this with Wash state ATG today also. Have not been able to get answer from this company today or even try to deposit the check. So far I haved been ripped off but really suspicious after reading a report filed here. What should I do?

DO NOT DEPOSIT THE CHECK. It IS a total SCAM. And you ask why they would do that. The reason is that ther ARE people out there with very little common sense who DO fall for it and that is all it takes.
