Please take my advise as a former client of Attorney James H. Cooke he will be detrimental to your case. He will not do the necessary research on your behalf thereby placing you at a disadvantage from the on-start. He will not prepare for any of your hearings placing a prepared opposing party at an advantage because he will not be prepared to fight for you. There will be no pre-trial preparations also putting you at a disadvantage.
He will not prepare monthly statements so you can stay on top of where you are financially with billing and ultimately you will receive an extremely ridiculously high bill with little "real"work done by him or his staff. His timekeepers billing is so horrible resulting in many overcharges but you will never get your money back. His staff is ill prepared and lack basic knowledge and very rude and they do not even pretend to advocate for you. Basically, you're like a number not a real client just being moved right along and collecting your money.
I regret not doing my research before retaining him so I am warning everyone reading this note to do your research and you will find several complaints about his level of representation which in my case was low, low, low the worse representation money can buy for my hard earned thousands of dollars. I do not have money to throw away but that is exactly what I did by retaining his services.
If the opposing party has a good lawyer you are dead in the water he will make arrangements without informing you, settle or negotiate an agreement that will favor the opposing party all because he comes unprepared and not ready for the gun fight. Before hiring him do your research honestly, you are better off being a Pro Se. This is my opinion and reflects my experience. I am not telling anyone not to retain this attorney just a word of caution to do your research. I would never recommend him to anyone who's looking for honest representation.

I just happened to check Rip Off Report, and saw this comment, that was written two years ago, but now posted. Again, I litigate with, and against Jim Cooke almost every week. He has never forgotten to attend court in the over 20 years I have known him. Again, why don't you leave your full name, and waive attorney-client privilege so Mr. Cooke can reply in a full and give the complete story of this case. He is an excellent attorney and just yesterday , while in his home, was on the cell phone with one of his clients assisting that client and answering all his questions and concerns. Very few attorneys do that. Jim is very competent and an excellent attorney.

I have known Jim Cooke since 1993. I have litigated with him, and against him. I have also hired Jim to represent me on various civil matters. He is an excellent attorney. As for bill padding, you must be kidding....Just the other month (November 2013) I informed him that the fees he charges are too low. He needs to actually increase his hourly rate and fees. The only person getting ripped off is Jim. Jim is up early in the morning, and at his office by 7-7:30am everyday. When he heads out of town to try and get some relaxation, he takes his files with him to work. I often hear him taking his clients' phone calls when they call him on his cell phone after hours, on the weekends, and holidays, because I am there. He has an excellent work ethic, is well respected by the judges, and his fellow attorneys alike. I always note that the folks leaving negative comments never leave their true name nor waive attorney-client privilege. A lot of times, clients have totally unrealistic expectations and expect the divorce attorneys to work for free. The practice of law is tedious, time consuming, and "ain't free". Just like you folks who work, you expect to get paid on payday. Well, so do the attorneys. How about you work yourself to death, and then not get paid. Let's see how you like it.....Jim advocates very aggressively for his clients and he is a superb attorney.

Attorney James Cooke Jr has been my attorney since 2007. I to wish I would have researched lawyers. Mr. Cooke makes promises to you and will never follow thru with what he says he will do. It would take me hours upon hours to go into detail of all the wrongs and awful representation he has done. For one he forgot to show up for my child support case so my ex got off paying child support for our son. My son is almost six and I still have not received a dime of child support. I finally went thur the state child support enforcement and got more help. Now I am fighting for custody and it has been a nightmare. Mr. Cooke tells you he is going to do one thing but then goes behind you back and makes deals with the other party to benefit them. My sons life is greatly affected by all this and it doesn't matter to Mr. Cooke. I will never recommend him to anyone ever.
