I PURCHASED A PREPAY(PAY AS YOU GO) PHONE FROM ATT,AND I USED MY DEBIT CARD. I WAS VERY CAREFUL ON NOT USING MY MINUTES, ONLY FOR EMERGENCIES, LEAVING A BALANCE STILL OF 59.00 ON THE ACCOUNT. WELL, NEXT THING I KNOW, I AM SHUT OFF, NO MINUTES, NO PHONE. I ASKED THEM WHAT HAPPENS TO MY 59.00 STILL LEFT ON THE ACCOUNT, WHICH THEY SAID WAS CANCELED BECAUSE THEY HADNT HEARD FROM ME.

I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF MOVING TO OK. AND HAVENT CHANGED MY DEBIT CARD YET. ACCORDING TO THEM(ATT) THAT MONEY IS THEIRS, AND I HAVE NO PHONE.THEY CERTAINLY ARE NOT A PAY AS YOU GO. NOW THEY WANT ME TO PUT MORE MONEY ON MY DEBIT CARD, THEN CALL THEM, AND THEY WILL TURN MY PHONE BACK ON.

i am an employee for at&t wireless prepaid customer care. the only time this service ever sets up a monthly payment plan is with the PICK YOUR PLAN rate plan which requires a monthly recurring payment of which the customer is advised about when selecting this plan and they must provide all credit/debit/checking information before the plan will go into effect. they can cancel at ANY time. as long as the monthly payment is successful, your balance will rollover month to month and your account will remain active.

if you were using your card to purchase airtime for a PAY AS YOU GO plan, you can make payments of 15, 25, 50, 75, or 100 dollars at a time using a credit, debit, or checking account as well.

with EITHER of these plans you are ALWAYS given your balance along with your airtime expiration date when you apply funds to the account. as long as you refill your account before that expiration date, your minutes will roll over to the next month for as long as you keep the account active. if you fail to do so, you have a grace period to reactivate your account before it is entirely canceled...at&t is even good about restoring accounts from cancellation.

if you read the enclosed information that came with your phone when purchased and listened to the representative you spoke with when setting up your account, then this shouldn't even be an issue.

with prepaid accounts...it's "you use 'em or you lose 'em" if you let your airtime expire...and especially if you leave it for so long that it actually cancels itself out. they give a very generous grace period for this. at least they offer to rollover the existing balance as long as you keep the account active. some providers do not.
