Complaint Review: Auctionata

Auctionata is a complete rip-off. I put in several bids on items, then I checked their shipping quotes and a very small tea caddy (3x4 inches) was going to cost over $350 to ship from Germany to the USA. I have purchased items from every major auction house in the world and have not had ourtrageous charges like this.

But it gets worse.

I tried to cancel my bids and they want to charge me over $300 to cancel a bid! They said it was in their terms and conditions that they could charge that much. Well it may have been in their terms and conditions on their German website, but it is (or was....they may have changed by now) on their American website.

This is a pure scam. Reputable auction houses will allow you to cancel a bid up until the time of the auction (I tried to cancel over 48 hours prior to the auction, but they say the cancellations may only be done prior to 72 hours before the auction.)

I caution anyone about doing business with these people.

They are scam artists. Unfortunately the art world has too many people like this.
