I saw another report here on the Ripoff report about AuthorHouse that was similar to my same complaint against the company. Now I had a book published with them back in 2005 called 'Mound Bayou'. At first I was taking their word for it that no copies of the book had been sold for I was well aware that books from vanity presses often didn't sell many copies. But then I started doing some research and saw that my book was being sold overseas in England, France, the Netherlands, Czechoslovakia, and as far away as India even Japan. On another booksite my book was listed amongst the top 500 best sellers in my genre of books for 2006! Yet AuthorHouse's claim was that I was not selling any books! Then I started seeing 'used' copies of my book being sold all over the net! Also I might add that the books being sold overseas were at a much higher retail price than here in the states. I also found evidence that my book was part of a college curriculum in England and was even being used at Harvard here in the States! I brought this to their attention yet they claim that no books were sold and didn't even try to answer the question of why USED copies were being sold if no copies had been sold! They still haven't answered this question but they somehow have money to acquire other publishing houses.

Well, you'd think I'd learned and I thought I had for my next book I used Xlibris for I have built up a name and expected some good sales to come out of this next venture. But guess what: Authorhouse acquired the rights to Xlibris earlier this year. Well, I can't stand it anymore and I'm not going to take it! My current book 'Cricket Man' started off pretty good overseas again yet according to them no books have been sold and yet again I'm already finding USED copies being sold and finding my book on just about every site my other book is on and being sold too! I'm like others out there, AuthorHouse is cheating us out of our royalties that's why they have so much money to expand and grow acquiring iUniverse and Xlibris and we need to come together and sue them! But this goes beyond even that for AuthorHouse has been doing this for so long that a Federal government investigation needs to be started immediately! I'm hoping someone out there can help us get this thing started because AuthorHouse has robbed me twice and many others who knows how many times! Hopefully we can get this thing started and get some of our money back before they disappear to Rio or somewhere!

I am in the same situation, and Xlibris/AuthorHouse continue to report no sales.  I even purchased copies of my book and-still-no record of sale(s)-according to the publishing company.  File an FBI online complaint form for internet crime.  How do you feel about contacting the media?  Let me know.

You are not alone; Xlibris/Authorhouse ran a scam on me, also.  My book in listed on so many web pages that the number-count is 39, and I am still counting. (Make sure you download those web pages as proof.) We have been quiet for-too-long, and it is time to stand up and do something.  Email risk.rateatt.net.  And, I plan to do the same thing.  Also, we should make media contact.  Each day do something.

Similar circumstances in England

I have just had a book published my Authorhouse and I am in a similar situation. I have found my books all over online retailers and i'm not sure whether my royalty payments will reflect this (I have yet to receive one since my book was only published in October). I wanted the royalties from this book to go into publishing the next one (which I will do so under another publisher). To say that i'm a little disappointed is an understatement since this is my first book and want to build up a good reputation. However, I don't really know where I stand since I live in here Britain and I'm not sure how my circumstances fit in with American law. I too have found "used" copies online. Can someone please clarify the situation for me?

I understand the frustration you are feeling. I had a similar experience with regards to author house.

I am of the opinion that all authors in similar circumstances should file a class action suit against author house.
