auto/Haus mystery yorktown Virginia
I took my 1996 volvo(960) to auto/haus to service my brakes, it was making a squeaking noise. Clark the asst. serv. manager contacted me on my cell. he said that my brakes needed to be replaced (front) then he said the rear brakes will need replacing in 2 months this is in June that i took the car in. i said go ahead and repalce both front and back brakes(he thought it was a good idea to do both). I picked up the car and drove it home with no problems. However the next day i heard the same noise i called clark 2 days later thinking it would go away but it didnt. he said thats the way these volvos are i have one he said it does the same when i get new brakes. but it kept making this noise so i called him after 30days of driving it. reluctantly he said bring it in we'll look at it. i waited there about 2hrs. after which he came out and said they cleaned the brakes it should be fine. So far the brakes r fine. HOwever after 3weeks of driving it to church the thermostat needle shot over to the red mark and no other indicaters was showing so i turn it around put it in 3rd gear and drove it half way home. I stop at the light it started smoking by this time the engine light came on.I parked it at the light called 911, then called AAA.I had it towed home and im going to donated it. I dont want to pay Auto/haus another dime. there isnt enough room to tell how in the past they riped me off, but i did nothing. i hope this will help some one else. thank you. i do believe they tampered with the ati freeze bottle and indicater lights when i took it in the second time. By the way my car is in very good condition its not a hoopty.

There is still no evidence the shop sabotaged your cooling system.
You state in the the report that "HOwever after 3weeks of driving it to church the thermostat needle shot over to the red mark and no other indicaters was showing", and then you state in the last reply, "i indicated it was 3 wks before i notice the problem."
So yes, there is some confusion. However, the temperature gauge worked and that is what will tell you if the vehicle is running hot. As well you state the check engine light did come on, so that worked as well. The temerature gauge is the first line of defense to prevent damage. If you see it climb towards the red you shut down and have it checked. If you drive too long then once it gets into the red, the check engine light will come on once overheated if the problem is not addressed, this is normal.
All they had to do the second time is clean the brakes which they did and it fixed the problem. To accuse them of tampering with the cooling system and indicator lights is a serious charge, you would need to have some evidence other then just stating a 15 year old Volvo overheated 3 weeks after the brakes were fixed. To post the gauge worked and the check engine light came on only proves there was no way they could have tampered with the indicator light.

i indicated it was 3 wks before i notice the problem. in actuallity it was when i got back off off vacation when i drove it again to church. I took it in on the 26th of Aug. 2010.ON the 27th i went on vacation,and left the car in the garage for a week.I got back on Sept.2nd. On Sept. 3rd i drove the car about 10 miles to the hospital to see my sister. when i drove it back home the fan would not stop it finally did after five mins. I needed the car for sunday so i didnt want to drive it sat. Sunday is when the thermostat needle went all the way to red. For give me for not being accurate the first time.

These mechanical issues are not at all related. There is no evidence whatsoever stated in this report to prove this shop tampered with the cooling system.
It is a 15 year old Volvo for Petes sake.. there is not a bigger piece of crap on the road. You are lucky you got that much time out of it.
Actually, this report concludes that they did nothing wrong. You state the thermostat needle shot up over to the red mark after 3 WEEKS of driving it to church. So that means the temperature indicator worked. As what could they possibly do to tamper with it to make it not work and then fix itself 3 weeks later?
Next time you are in church ask for some forgiveness for lodging a fraudulent report against this place of business unless you have some solid proof to conclude otherwise.

Will is right. There isn't a rip off here. The overheating problem is unrelated to the brakes being fixed. As with any vehicle, things do break or wear out and being a 1996 model it is not uncommon for a mechanical failure to occur.
Accusing the shop of causing the breakdown 3 weeks after repairing your brakes is just wrong.

You're blaming them for a entirely different problem on your car 3 weeks AFTER they re-worked your brakes? New brake pad squeal is very common after a brake job,but they did correct the issue and I assume at no charge since you never mentioned extra $$. If auto/haus messed with the cars cooling system it would have shown problems way before 3 weeks!! Let me guess; when your wipers stop working auto/haus did that too!! You're CLUELESS!
