There is a classic vehicle seller on the internet called "AutoTraderClassics" There website is: http://www.autotraderclassics.com/index.xhtml In their emails to subscribers (my husband and I had a mild interest in some of the vehicles they offered for sale so we subscribed to their email service) they offer the chance to enter many "dream" sweepstakes which include prizes of classic vehicles and cash; with some dream sweepstakes offering home makeovers and shopping sprees as well, again along with lots of cash. During the entry process, one is asked to "purchase" or "make a donation" to purchase a ticket to be able to obtain "one entry"...and entry donation being $3.00 for one entry ticket. They list several organizations that they say the donations will go to on their website. Not sure if the money raised ever reaches those people, but the larger question... WHY during the entry process do they ask for a person's... SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER and say this is "required" to be able to enter these sweepstakes? In this day of identity theft a person would be insane to give them that information. It appears to me, a still halfway level headed 62 year old woman, that this business is deliberately trying to take advantage of senior citizens, by wooing them with classic car and cash prizes and then coercing them into giving out their social security numbers. Someone should seriously check these people out. Something isn't right.
