I purchased what seemed to be a good running used car. Later to find out that the catalytic converter is bad and they had to have erased codes for the check engine light not to have been on. In having it check there were many other expensive issues. They refuse to do anything regarding the converter and you can’t plate your car without it. They won’t even talk to me. They won’t return my calls they hung up on me. In looking over the paperwork I see they snuck in a form saying it was being sold for parts. They obviously knew this car was not fit for sale. The brakes are bad the key fob isn’t working the auto locks on one side are broken the joint in the steering wheel needs replacing and the tires are not good and the headlight on the drivers side is out. The only thing I wanted was the converter and the light fixed. They are trying to rip me off and being nasty about it. I am dumping the car back off and I don’t what happens at this point. I will probably have to get an attorney.

Watch out for these people. All the Autobarns are bad. I spoke to a former employer that told me they are crooked and try to cover things up and defraud people all the time and that’s why he quit. The thing with signing. I was on painkillers and just wanted to get home. I was not in the proper frame of mind. I would suggest to everyone to stay away from this company all together but for sure read every word of what they have you sign. They are crooks.

Update

Was finally able to resolve this issue. Note to all. You can’t sell a vehicle that cannot pass emissions. I was able to cancel this contract, but, not with out being given the runaround. The would not pay off the loan till last minute and I had to put through a disputed charge on my credit card for the down payment. This was after they agreed to cancel the contract. It took months to resolve. There would have been no way of knowing upfront the issues I would have with this car. My mechanic even checked it out. Some would say buyer beware, but, no one should have the right to try to intentionally defraud and cheat another person. The laws really need to be revised around used car purchasing. There are a lot of crooks out there trying to hide behind the cover of inept laws in this regard. End results is I have finally been made whole. I have now purchased an awesome car from an awesome dealership that I usually use. I will not ever stray from them again. Have a Merry Christmas everyone!

Your friend?

and my friend telling me it was a good car and go for it things happen.

Based on your update it sounds like your "friend" did you a huge disservice, and you are really just trying to convince yourself that you are not responsible. Perhaps if you say it enough times you may start to believe it.

Even if you were so strung out on painkillers you didn't know what day it was, with the exception of the converter, every other issue you mentioned should have easily been seen and a concern raised by your "friend" during the "test drive". Of course if that was the case perhaps your friend should have looked out for you a bit more and looked over the documents on your behalf..or told you to come back another day. They were there the entire time..right? Thy didn't just do the test drive and leave..did they?

The car drive perfect. None of the things that are wrong affects the preformanc of the car.
- Pefect? So in your mind brakes that were bad don't affect performance. I guess you are right...until you try and STOP.

This isn't to be rough or mean, or put you in a position to "defend" yourself. This is being very blunt. The fact is that you apparently trusted a "friend" that may not have been the best idea. Since you signed the papers, and those papers most likely stated that the car was sold "As-Is" you really don't have any valid complaint.  You are going to have a real hard time to put this off on you being on painkillers and not in any condition to sign a contract.

Now, if you drop off the vehicle, if you financed it that is considered a Repo and the bank can come after you for the balance. If you paid for the car in full, then you are just throwing money away. Instead if you have proof that they intentionally cleared the codes, or did some other fraudlent activity..take them to small claims court. The judge will ask you for your proof and if you have enough may order them to refund your money.

As for the AG. You spoke with the AG's office not the AG.  If they really do get hundreds of these cases against a single dealer, they would investigate. Most likley they gave you some things that makes it SOUND like they will take it seriously..such as we will keep this on file and if more show up or they notice a trend..etc. But they also probably said something to the effect that they can't give you any specific legal advice so you should consult an attorney.

Good Luck.

I wasn’t going to ask you if you worked for the company I was just going to tell you what a jerk you are. I am trying to warn others and you can keep your self righteous judgements to yourself. I can give you several reasons why things got past me such as my friend had to test drive it for me since my foot was broken. The car drive perfect. None of the things that are wrong affects the preformanc of the car. You just can’t get it lincebaed without passing emissions. They deliberately erase diagnostic codes so check engine light and brake warning do not show up during the test drive. And I was out of it since being on painkillers and should not have purchased a car during this time but stressed with needing a car and my friend telling me it was a good car and go for it things happen. Once again though I should not be defending myself. That is not what this forum is for. This is a shady company with shady people anyway you look at it. You attacking me does not change that. I spoke with the attorney General and was told they get hundreds of these cases...ssssooo.You have a good day.

Some Questions

#6Consumer Comment

Wed, October 24, 2018

You say the car has bad tires, bad locks, bad brakes. Did you even bother to LOOK at this car? Did you take this thing on a TEST DRIVE? Now suddenly you claim "they snuck" some paperwork into the contract. Why did you NOT see that paperwork while you were at the dealership? If you could READ it at home, you surely could have READ it before YOU agreed to the terms of the sale! What about the purely BOGUS $175.94 fee for paperwork? There is no "Document Fee"! It's a purely BOGUS, ADD-ON, PHONEY fee which YOU didn't see! They very deliberately and deceptively gave this BOGUS FEE an official sounding name and an unusual amount ending in 94 cents as an attempt to DECEIVE you into thinking its some sort of legitimate fee when it IS NOT. My question to you is WHY did you not see these things in the contract? Let me guess...you didn't even bother to READ what you were SIGNING, did you? If this paperwork said it was sold "for parts" it said that at the dealership just like it said that when you brought that paperwork home! You people will never learn something as OBVIOUS as this: READ WHAT YOU ARE SIGNING BEFORE YOU SIGN IT!!! Let me save you some effort. Don't bother writing back something like "you must work for them". I'll save you the trouble ahead of time by telling you, I DON'T!
