2008 got car insurance from AAA of which I am a member. Thought they would be competitively priced. Found out shortly there after they charged a lot more than competitor for same insurance. Canceled insurance with them. They did not immediately cancel the policy and there was a balance due of $137. I was never contacted about this outstanding balance just sent to a collection agency who notified the credit rating agencys. Last month I was considering refinancing my home and found out that my credit score is below 700 which makes it very difficult to obtain a loan. I ran my own credit to discover that AAA whom I have been a member for years ruined my credit over $137 balance on an insurance policy they failed to cancel promptly.

Don't buy insurance from AAA and if u do check you credit often since they will not hesitate to send you to collections. Must be easier for them than a phone call to resolve the problem.

Even when I pay the $137 my credit will still be damaged since I have been in collections and you don't want to know how difficult it is to locate someone to pay the money to.

you bought insurance through an agent for which AAA gets a commission. In some states they act as their own agent but no AAA club is an insurance co.
If you don't know who you bought from no wonder you're having trouble.

First as with any company depending on your situation one company may have better rates than others and you do need to shop around.

I don't know if you know this but with AAA they price their rates on a YEARLY basis, just about every other company price it on a 6 MONTH basis. So for example if AAA give you a quote for $1000 that is for the YEAR, and if you compare that with someone who quotes you $600 for 6 MONTHS, if you expand that out to a year that is $1200 or $200 more than AAA.

While I can not say for sure. It is very likely that they sent you a notice(or two) in the mail. Whether you saw these and thought they were junk mail it is hard to say. Because if it was sent to a Collection Agency as you say, you can guarantee that the agency would have called you, sent you letters and been very agressive. To the point you would not have had to wait until you ran your own credit report.

Oh and yes I am a customer of AAA. In fact I just renewed and in my situation they were still about 40% cheaper than the next closest company for the same coverage.
