Autozones Duralast Gold series batteries carry a 2 year, no questions asked free replacement guarantee.  The date the battery was purchased was clearly marked on the side...it was dated March of 2008.  I was the original purchaser of the battery.  Fast forward to November of 2009.

The battery was clearly dead so i took it to them to have them test it.  They came back and told me it was good so i took it home, charged it up fully and put it back in my Honda Civic only to have it die again with a few hours.  So i took it to Napa and they tested it and ensured me it was definitely a bad battery.  Took it back to Autozone yet again and they confirmed, bad battery and that they will replace it.  As they start looking for my warranty information, they cant find it.  What they do find though is a mish-mash of poorly entered warranty information on things i have bought from them in the past.  The search goes on for 20 mins and they cant find my warranty information on this particular battery and basically tell me "tough luck".

So let me get this straight...you can clearly see ive bought parts for this particular car from you on a regular basis...you can see the date on the battery and that its clearly bad...so why wont you honor your warranty?  Is it because the person who entered my warranty information was too incompetent to enter it correctly?

Im done with Autozone, done with their piss poor customer services and their crap products.  I have 4 vehicles that i do all my own maintenance on and i will never step foot in an Autozone store because of the reasons stated above.  This is not the first time i have had issues with their warranty process but it is certainly the last!  Im not out to rip anyone off and when i have a clear history of buying many, many parts through this store, i would expect a slight bit of leniency to be taken into account when a mistake was made on their part.

Reciept

I just wanted to add a "trick" I developed for not losing battery reciept.

Onec I get back from buying a new car battery, I photocopy the reciept,

1 copy goes into a file for my taxes - business expense

1 copy, plus original reciept (usually printed on thermal paper that self-destructs) goes

into a ziplock bag.  Now tape bag directly to the battery.  If, or when battery goes bad,

you *have* a copy of the reciept, all fresh and readable, no searching or thinking involved.

Now thats just comedy and a response i would have expected from an "Vatozone" employee.

If you cant tell them the year, make and model, they cant help you...and even then, the word "help" to them is cloudy at best.  Most of their employees ive encountered couldnt tell you the difference between their a*s or a hole in the ground.

To this day, i still have not stepped foot in another Autozone and it feels good...REALLY good...ive taken a couple of their customers with me in the process.  Especially since our local Napa bends over backwards and does whatever it takes to get the customer what they actually need and to keep them happy.  Good customer service is worth its weight in gold and ill happily pay a little more to deal with someone competent and who also sells much higher quality products...maybe thats something you should recommend they add to their employee training videos...

Regarding the Autozone situation

Look. Autozone is a massive company and of course things go wrong but our computer system actually works very well.

Here is the amazing thing that I see on a day to day basis which is people can't or don't know their phone numbers. Also, any warranty information after ended will appear on the receipt. In conclusion if you would have looked at your receipt prior to leaving the store you good have had any future issues handled.

We actually had a situation the other day where someone had purchased a Duralast Professional battery which sells for $129.99. He came in and let us know that his battery was bad which normally is a two second process to replace. The customer began telling us that he had purchased that battery at a yard sale and he figured we would just give him a new one.

Going to NAPA is a joke because the quality of their parts isn't anything to brag about and their prices are very high.

Battery Warrenty

#5Consumer Comment

Usually at part stores, on the door, when you leave it says'

"No warrenties or returns without original receipt"

That does not mean in the computer, but and actual paper receipt, so i would blame incompetence on both parties. I can see where they are coming from, because the computer asks information before it can procede with the warrenty. And if they can't make the ticket b/c of lack of information then they can't let the part leave the store. Not that they don't want to, but more of that they can not, for theft reasons. Of course that is NOT the situatin, but thats the way it looks on paper. You would be suprised how many people actually try to pass off items as their own and expect a warrenty when THEY KNOW they never purchased the item. It's good to keep receipts

I had a grown man tell me they that it was impossible for someone to keep up with receipt's. This is were i proceded to tell him a story of your average, careless 14 yr old who bought a battery and when the battery went bad 6 yrs later, he brought the battery to the store with the receiptand the warranty was taken care of. Really??. . . a grown man can not keep up with a receipt, but a stupid 14 yr old, can?? I was that 14 yr old, by the way.

I work at a parts store(not this one), and I keep ALL the receipt's(that tell's you what I think of computers, trust them at your own risk) for parts that I would rather not re-purchase.

I'm not tring to sound like a d****e. . .
Advice, You should have talked to the manager, and explained the situation. Most managers take well to polite-ness,most people for that matter.  People would be suprised how far niceness goes in this line of buisness.

I do not have a problem searching for warranties and maybe pulling some strings for customers that have been nice to me. I do though for rude customers; Food for thought.
