I lived at Avalon apartments for two years. When it was time for me to move out I gave the required 45 day notice. Since my move out day was 14 days before the end of the month. I called to see what my pro-rated rent would be for the month. The office manager (Shawna) said, "we only pro-rate in, not out." In my mind that is stealing, what adds up to be $220.

I went ahead and paid the total price of rent for that month. (I thought) I wasnt informed of the month to month charge the added for the last month.
Then Shawna puts a note with my check inside it on my door, threatening eviction if I dont pay $726. (my rent was 540) With no explanation why she added $186.

My point is they knew i was moving out in 2 weeks and they threaten to EVICT me. I have never paid late, never had any problems at all. This company is TERRIBLE. No since of CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. They DONT CARE.

End of Lease?

#2Consumer Suggestion

Sat, June 28, 2008

Hi Shawn, I work in Cleveland for an apartment community(not affiliated with the one you experienced). My question is concerning your lease term. Did you move out 14 days before the end of your lease? If so, your lease technically would not end until that 14 days is up, which would make you responsible for the apartment until that date (no pro-ration). Even if you had gone MTM for another month past your lease date ending, you would be charged, usually at least 10% extra in rent for going MTM. It's relatively standard, but the policies can change per company. It all really depends on what your lease says. The extra fees could either be extra for going MTM, or if that is not the case, perhaps late fees? I do not know. If you can give a lil more detail, I'd be happy to answer your questions to the best of my ability. Good luck
