University of Illinois Board, President White and Chancellor Herman Get Asterisk for Cheating from Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn for Discrimination Against Veterans
OK, so students cheat. We know that. But when Deans, Chancellors and University Presidents cheat, that's a lot worse. University of Illinois altered admissions procedures for veterans after they were accepted and then put civilians in their place. That's discrimination and cheating at a PhD level.
Lt. Governor Pat Quinn sent Univ of Illinois President Joe White, Chancellor Richard Herman and the Board of Trustees a letter reprimanding them for cheating veterans out of 110 promised MBA scholarships. He caught them lying to his face and in writing. Way to go, Pat Quinn. Finally, Illinois has a politician who is honest and keeps his word. Read the letter here - capitalfax.blogspot.com/2007/11/marathon-pundit-exclusive-quinns-letter.html.
Truth eventually finds the light of day, doesn't it?
How do PhD's cheat? University of Illinois Business Dean Avijit Ghosh, Associate Dean Larry DeBrock, Finance Department Chair David Ikenberry cheated veterans by altering admissions procedures and deadlines after veterans applied.
Then they forged a signature on letters they sent to veterans blaming vets for not sending in their transcripts from Iraq fast enough (10 days from acceptance). Ghosh got caught lying to the Lt. Governor in writing.
Now their deception got the ire of the Illinois Inspector General who has been investigating for over 18 months. Honesty and integrity are scarce commodities in Champaign.
University of Illinois gets a big asterisk for cheating in my book. It's especially heinous when university administrators do it because students think they get a fair shake in the admissions process. Now we know the admissions process is rigged based on who you are and if you get public support like a veteran.
What's the world coming to? Now we can't trust our public universities. One university president at Chicago State used the university credit card for personal purchases. Another university president plagiarizes a paper. President Joe White at University of Illinois gives buddy Avijit Ghosh a $339,000 job, a sizeable increase over the predecessors $260,000 salary, even though Ghosh's qualifications in GEOGRAPHY aren't related to the job. Payback is profitable Ghosh helped White get his $500,000 job 2 years ago.
Students cheat on papers and tests (college presidents at SIU do, too). Athletes use steroids. Politicians lie. What's wrong with a little corruption by Deans and Presidents in higher education? Everybody does it, right? It's just the culture of corruption in Illinois
PhD's cheat but eventually get caught just like everybody else. It's time someone cleans house in Champaign, Carbondale and Chicago. The Illinois culture of corruption should be allowed to fester within the ivy walls of higher education, too.
