I too work for a small non-profit and late last fall my president came to me with an ad from AVTECH for some computers offered at low prices. We were in need of new equipment so I 'checked them out' by going to their website link and seeing what the different models included.

Unfortunately I couldn't finish checking them out online before the '5:00 pm deadline'. She ordered the computer and we recieved it a couple weeks later.

That's when I noticed things weren't what they should be. The website claimed that they don't ship any systems with Win98 anymore as it's no longer supported by Microsoft so ALL systems come with Win XP home edition. The packing list said the enclosed computer had Win98. When I booted the system it contained Win2000. It wasn't new, it was registered to Amy. There was no Win2000 liscence, paperwork or disk. The only paperwork we had was the booklet for the system motherboard. Also an install disk for Nero Express and Cyberlink PowerDVD[all one disk].

When I went back to their website I could no longer find the information I had seen before. The descriptive pages were gone as was the page concerning OS. I can no longer get to a website for them at all for the reasons posted by others above.

Our computer does work, although there is no cooling fan other than the CPU fan and we cannot use the soundcard except to play sound as there are dead cables hooked up to the input and mic jacks. I have not been able to get any customer service as the office for our non-profit shares a building with another business and we are only here part-time and the computer was delivered when no one was here until after the 14 day time limit was almost over.

Report them to Microsoft

#2Consumer Suggestion

Wed, January 12, 2005

Avtech shut down all of their websites after they were being sued by the state of Washington.
I am not sure if they are still in business. You should report them to Mircosoft Anti Piracy hotline. Avtech direct is cloning the same hard drives from years back when the company was DEC Performance and Amerafund. Microsoft does not even make Windows 98 anymore. It is outdated technology. This is year 2005!!

You should also email attorney general of Washington because they will need more evidence for the lawsuit. The owner Gary Huniker must go to jail!! I cant believe he even ripped off a Non-Profit organization. He will get what he deserves.
