this is in response to the fake students at UoP i agree that there are fake students in the classes here is a couple of names that dont make sense this is in my financial accounting class that i am currently in.


1. William Kid. I find this one funny because its Billy the Kid

2. Ndeye Ndoye. ok just weird

3. Sasha Islam. middle eastern perhaps

4. John Edwards. like the senator scandal

5. Rain Goatson. must have had a rough childhood


This is my all time favorite because it is so blatantly obvious its FAKE.

6. Prince Williams. I mean come on really must have skipped class to go to the royal wedding

I can see that you are having the typical University experience, it just happens to be Online. I have attended five different Universities in my educational career and have had the same experiece as you... I was often one of a couple of individuals to get the work done while others tried to get a free-ride. I too heard many of the same excuses of deaths, work, computing issues, commuting issues, etc. This is a fact of life. In fact, I have had some of these problems myself and I paid the consequences in my grade. I still did my work. I still contributed. I still got dinged in compliance with the given school/ instructor grading policies.

Now to address the idea of "fake" students. That cannot be done. "Fake" students show up on rolls, but never in attendance. These people cannot be billed for partial attendance if they are not going to school. Financial Aid cannot be processed because the Government can clearly see that "fake" students are not in classes through their auditing capacity. Now, I cannot say why UOP had this scheduling exercise other than to generate accurate retention figures-- I do not know. I do know that schools will have listings of students for classes they have registered for/ pre-scheduled for to have a means of genrating potential retention rates versus possible retention rates. Some institutions will even try to go to the students out of attendance to learn how he school could do better in the future and retain the non-attending students. Another reason may be to have fuill disclosure for the shareholders meeting to show how many students worked through the application process to go to school and did not begin, went a few weeks/ classes or are continuing.

Retention is the number one thing that all colleges and Universities hope to have. The greater retetntion, number of students continuing their studies compared to enrollments, the great tuition and fees they will generate and the greater likelyhood they will produce graduates. Do a goolge search for "college retention rates" to learn more about this.

One more thing, you note that it could be easy for a University representative to just go in and make posts for "fake" students. This would be equivalent to employees and staff at traditional schools generating homework for non-existent students. This takes too much time and IS fraud. I do know that UOP reps do not go in and post for "fake" students or even real students. I know that many NEVER take advantage of their educational benefit-- I have asked. Once a person is in class there is noone who has access to a students password to get into their individual student system. Have you tried to get technical support to help you with that? I know I have. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act passed last year put an end to that (same for your bank account and credit cards... virtually all transactions that have a financial aspect to them).

The only "filler" in UOP classes are the same "filler" in a traditional classroom. Learning Teams are not the best way to earn an education Online, but that is the model that UOP uses. Learning Teams are MOST effective in a classroom settting where you can meet face-to-face. Check out the educational research for the data on this. Online suffers from the same problems all over the internet and boards like this-- anonymity and "online personalities" or "trolling". Yet, if Learning Teams were not somewhat effective, other colleges and Universities would not be copying this model... both Online and in class.

Last, to the OP. If you question the behavior that you saw in the workplace, this is not the place to air it. You should report it to the state and federal regualting bodies. Go to the press. Placing infromation on a board like this without full and accurate knowledge is unprofessional and could hinder your ability to help legitimate investigations because your employer may note what you have done and you will not have any whistleblower protections.

...interesting...and fits a theory of mine...This was posted here before, but due to the revelation that UOP DOES indeed "create" fake students, there is more validity to my theory... As previously posted here and elsewhere on the net, my theory:

I am almost positive, and I'll admit this is merely a gut feeling, one that deserves investigation, that these "students" and "team" members are fakes...What do I mean by "fakes?" I am theorizing that some of these fellow students are merely filler, a means of filling the gaps of limited attendance in these courses. Perhaps these fakes are either the instructors or employees of the "universi-mentary."

I type this based on my experiences in around 10 courses, all having the same experiences with the teams...I did ALL the work while these fools came up with one excuse after another, from deaths in their families, to massive car wrecks, to fried computers, to numerous other events that prevented the "team member's" full participation in the group work.

Now, I admit fully that I would check in on all of the teams and the same garbage was happening in them as well...MAYBE 2 active members working per 6-7 member team...and this was true in EVERY class I had...Now what is the probability of having 10 or so courses and having the EXACT M.O. occur in EVERY class??? Before you all think I'm on a dillusional path, examine your experiences with UOP Online and think back to your "team." Did you have similar experiences, where every excuse in the book was used to avoid work, where only 1-2 members did all of the work while the remaining members did nothing?

It wouldn't take ANY effort for the instructor or an outside employee to go to these classes and type a bunch of garbage excuses...or to simply remain silent...It would also be effortless for an employee to simply turn in a set of stock responses to the classroom to add to the appearance of legitimacy to such an assignment. More potential evidence of "stock" responses can be found in the verbiage of emailings from members of the UOP faculty and staff and their constant usage of the term "just a heads up." I saw that phrase from SO MANY UOP employees that the lack of originality sickened me! Now, if they could dish up the fakeness in emailings, they most certainly COULD do this in the classes. At the least, this stool...I mean, "school," lets anyone into the program.

Hmmm......If UOP would create false students for one cause, why not numerous others? If this can be proven, a class action suit should be filed to sue UOP and Apollo for FRAUD...If this happens, count me in...
