Axia College Online University Of Phoenix University of Phoenix "fictitious" online nursing program Online California

At 47 and working in retail for years I decided I needed a real career so I looked into nursing. Because I worked full time I looked online and when I entered "nursing programs", The "University of Phoenix website kept coming up and there was a photo of a nurse in her neat, pressed uniform right on the front page of the website. Soooo, I inquired. I was specific about what my intentions were. I am 48 and need to achieve a position as an LVN within 2 years and after securing a position I would then continue my education to acquire my RN certification. The "enrollment counselor" or as I now call him, cold caller "Josiah" assured me I could obtain my LVN status in 18 months and earn a decent living while continuing my education. He assisted me with my loan applications and, like magic; I was enrolled in a nursing program. Well, not having been in school in 20+ years I knew I would have to get generals out of the way. About a year goes by and I begin to wonder, surely I must be through my generals by now, solo, I called my "academic counselor" to get the FYI on my status about when I would be starting my lab classes. Well.....this is where I dropped the phone, when she told me that they do not have nursing classes, not any kind of nursing classes, or anything to do with medical careers. So of course I asked her, "then what am I enrolled in?' She told, Health and Human Services Administration. I told her, I did not enroll in that program, it was nursing, I do not want to be an HR and I do not ever want to be in management, why would someone put me in this hole of a career. I've seen Human Resource positions in retail; it is a thankless stressful never ending hell that I would not wish on anyone.
I was already more than half through so I finished it, but while I was still working toward what is now a beautiful, worthless diploma, the credits that I received are non-transferrable to other colleges so I will have to start all over from scratch. I am now 49 with a worthless certificate and $14,000 in debt. I am so discouraged over this I am having a hard time picking up my boot straps and starting over in academia. I am so embarrassed for being betrayed and used, and cheated.

Well after reading all of the posts on here it leaves me kind of skeptical on the thing.  My husband is currently enrolled in University of Phoenix and has been since September.  So far everything has been great, he's learned a lot and seems to be understanding the system pretty good.  His acedemic counselor explained everything about the loans, grants, and expectations in detail, and even madd me want to enroll.  So far so good, I guess the only thing that worried me was in another report as well as this one where the person said they enrolled for something and was put into a business management class, or another class they didn't ask for, well my husband enrolled in accounting, and they told him he had business accounting courses available, which we thought was still considered accounting, the only thing that makes me wonder and something I've asked my husband alot lately, is if he is enrolled in accounting, why he hasn't been tought anything having to do with numbers yet. I've never taken anaccounting class before so i don't know if that is standard practice, but after reading about the issues everyone is having, I'll be sure to tell to call his counselor.  I really hope that the college turns out to be as good as it seems right now, because my husband and I have 4 children, and he passed up the opportunity to go to college when he was younger and then after getting settled, decided to go,  he is very motivated and I would be so proud to see him achieve this, and have abachelors degree in accounting.  I will be calling the school to see what the status of his classes are, good luck to everyone

In good faith I, also, enrolled in an AA program with (I thought) University of Phoenix. Turned out I was actually enrolled in Axia College. By the fourth class into it I was totally disillusioned. The "professor" of an basic English class stopped responding to my questions. I contacted the school and got a run-around. Contacted my "academic advisor" and got the same thing. I was paying good money to be instructed and was not receiving any guidance at all. I quit the college after the class was completed but am still stuck with a student loan to pay off.

Rip off artists are one of the kindest things I can think to call them. But I also feel like an idiot for being taken in by them. They should be put out of business, in my opinion.

sometime i'm in a hurry and don't use correct (insert whatever here). neither do you. the idea is to get the message across, which i do, and help people if possible. in response to your question about why i sympathize with some and not with others. i try to offer info as accurately as possible, and i do care.

a pet peeve is when people don't take responsibility for their own actions and then place blame on others, all the while expressing indignation and outrage as loudly and viciously as possible. i see a lot of that here.

in responding to this person, i felt that she was indeed wronged, and i wish there was a way for me to do more for her.

the internet is full of criticizers; let's work on solutions instead.

Fitz, I did not know you are an employee of the UoP

Hi Fitz,

I did not know you are an employee of the UoP. You really should check your spelling and grammar if you are representing the UoP. You failed to capitalize the first words in a sentence, and you also never capitalized any of the first person singular pronoun "I"

Are you speaking for yourself or do you represent the school? If you have obtained a bachelor's degree you may want some of that money back. We all make typos, but you are very consistent in you grammatical errors.

Why are you kind to the author of this posting, but very nasty to the author of the last posting?

Rick from Ct.

So sorry

I hear where you are coming from and am so sorry you were mislead like this. Here are a couple of solutions:

1. withdraw and use your pre-reqs that you've already earned and transfer them into a nursing program. The only difference from our pre-reqs and a nursing program's is that there are many more science credits required. this school is regionally accredited, so check other school and see if they are also accredited, because they should accept what you've done.

2. continue with the path you are in. unfortunately it doesn't lead you towards an RN, but the AA Health Care Admin or Human Services Managmt program is a great foot-in-door degree into the admin side of healthcare OR social work, respectively.

if life gives you lemons...

You were lied to by someone in my company, and for that i apologize and am very sorry. Check the fine print, though.

Every time you logged into your student webpage, your degree program and classes are right there on the main page. It should say exactly what degree you are working on since there is no "Health and Human Services Administration" program, but there is a AA in Human svcs mgmt. This is a social work degree, not a human resources degree.

Also, every time you or your counselor spoke it should have been documented. call student services and ask for a full disclosure of your file notes from the very beginning. if wrong-doing is there, press charges.

i wish you the best of luck.
