It's that time of year when B&H Asphalt Paving sends out postcards about paving driveways.
For those of you that are thinking about paving your driveway, a word of caution based on my
experience with them.
Their postcard used to say 3'' of asphalt, however, that means prior to rolling. Checked with
several other paving companies & the consensus was that 3'' compresses 1/2" at most, e.g.
after rolling, the thickness should be 2 1/2". Checking 3 different driveways done by B&H, the
thickness was only 2".
As long as the subsurface is really solid, there may not be a problem. They did our driveway last year and some spots are sinking and the edges are breaking off badly.
The old adage of 'you get what you pay for' (if your lucky) applies to B&H.

Bruce Harris of B & H Asphalt met with us to resolve some outstanding driveway paving issues. He acknowledged our concerns and offered to do repairs, even though the driveway had been paved 4 years earlier. Satisfactory repairs have been made and the driveway is scheduled for a seal coat next week. Mr. Harris went out of his way to ensure we were satisfied customers.
