To Whom It May Concern,
My name is Jeff Hamann. I have been flying powered paragliders since 2003. I have flown my PPG from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas and from Arizona to Costa Rica. Yes, I fly a
lot. You may have seen some of my articles in Paramotor Magazine or in Powered Sport Flying.
In 2007, I asked Michael Purdy to sell a new Blackhawk PPG that a friend had ordered and then backed out on. He sold the unit to one of his students right away but I never
saw any of the money. When I enquired he informed me that he had used my $4,500 to pay for his honeymoon! He assured me that I was NOW at the top of his creditor list and would pay me ASAP. That was over 5 years ago.
Michael and I are neighbors in Baja California. Sometime in the last couple of years, he rented a
subdivision home, in Puerto La Salina a few blocks from my condo. Mike now
offers numerous training and clinics in both PPG, and paragliding. He charges as
much as $1600 per student , with classes as large as 10 students. I hosted a
dinner party at my condo after one clinic taught by my friend Jeff Goin. Jeff never received payment for his services and I barely got a thank you.
Mike Purdy appears to be doing well, in La Salina. He claims to have trained over 70 students from
all over the world last year! He has numerous PPG motors, wings,( single and
tandem); a quad; an ATV or two; a passenger transport van; a Toyota Land Cruiser
and much more. Yet everytime I turn around I run into another person owed
money by Michael. John, neighbor in the condo below. Casey on the first
floor. Brent down the street. And even a supplier that I met at the Salton Sea
Fly In.
Even though Mike brags to prospective students that he made $100,000 + last year, he is either
unable or unwilling to pay me back.
BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WITH MIKE PURDY. Hiding in Puerto La Salina, Baja Mexico puts him out of reach of even small claims court here in the US.
