Bald and Purri Sphynx cattery Brenda Bevan withheld vet and medical information about a cat I purchased Funkstown Maryland
I bought an 11 month old female sphynx from Brenda Bevan( Bald and Purri cattery), who said she had "rubbing" spots on her back from rubbing against furniture, and after spay they would go away. Well, they did not! The spots turned into what the vet called "raised ulcerative lesions" they would ooze and bleed. The vet said it was probably a congenital auto immune disease, but Brenda blamed vaccines! The vet said no! Treatment and tests would cost me thousands, and I needed the previous 11 months of vet history from Brenda while she had her. ( I only had her a month!) I asked multiple times for her vets info. She refused and then told me if I returned the cat to her property or contacted her again she was going to phone the authorities!! Buyers please BEWARE of Brenda Bevan. Read her contract with a fine tooth comb!! At one point she told me to bring back the cat and she would refund my money... Then changed her mind! I had to surrender the cat today to the animal shelter where they said she would likely be put to sleep. If Brenda didn't refuse to give me the vet records, my vet may have been able to collaborate with Brenda's vet to come to a more affordable solution. Why did she not want me to see or contact her vet?, WHO KNOWS! Buyers please don't be as naïve as me!! I also told my vet hospital to only release my cats info. to another vet office. Brenda called and somehow got them to send vet records to her home! Unbelievable! Brenda, if you are reading this, please tell us ALL why you refused to give me the contact info. for the vet that saw this cat the first 11 months of it's life while you had it? If this cat wasn't sick, why hide the information!

This was small claims court..and Brenda hired an experianced attorney. Who spends money on an attorney for small claims court! I didn’t, it would have cost more for the attorney then the cat. Brenda did NOT “prove” anything pertaining to the health of the cat the 11 months she had her! The only vet records entered into evidence were mine, by me! To this day I have never seen any veterinary documentation from Brenda pertaining to the cat while in her care, or any documentation she even took the cat to a vet! Iv’e never even heard a name of a vet who saw this cat. I begged Brenda at one point for the rabies certificate(which is law in MD for a cat 4mo. Of age) and she ignored me! I was very concerned because the sick cat had been exposed to children, and Brenda refused to give me any documentation! That was a despicable thing for a breeder to do!! I reported her to the humane society! Signing Her Contract Was A Big Mistake I made, and buyer beware. Brenda's contract is what was argued and it stuck, so I didn’t get the judgment against Brenda I was seeking. It was my fault for trusting Brenda’s word about the health of the cat and immunizations received. I should have gotten the vets name and all records prior to purchase, and I didn’t. The contract is what mattered, and it protected Brenda. So, the question still remains...WHERE ARE THE VET RECORDS BRENDA? WHO WAS THE VET THAT SAW HER? Those two big questions have never been answered for me, and I don't anticipate they ever will. I would NEVER EVER deal with Brenda again!
Brenda, if you continue to post things pertaining to me in a false light, you better get ready for a long drive, you’re making this personal now, and your contract won't protect you from that! You'll be coming to court in Baltimore next time!

My only purpose for posting this is to help inexperianced cat buyers like me, who may not know what to ask or look for. I did NOT give Brenda any permission to use anything pertaining to me on her website. Please keep in mind she controls that website! Hind sight is always 20/20 and here are some things I would have changed if I could go back. And this goes for any breeder:
1) Ask the breeder for a certificate of health signed by a licensed Vet (DVM) before pick up. Get the vets contact information and all records at the time of pick up, or before. ( I have a feeling alot of these breeders are self diagnosing, and not even using vets.)
2) Realize that the few days they give you in a contract may not be enough time for something like auto immune to flare up, this comes and goes. Put in the contract that if the animal shows signs of autoimmune, the pet will be returned for a full refund. Please visit this site ( web-DVM) search is auto immune in cats caused by vaccines. for more info. it is what my vets told me- that vaccines did not cause this, and ask for the refund regardless of vaccine history.
3) Beware that when you request a breeder for a refund for vet bills and the cost of the cat they may try to threaten you with extortion!(prior to this Brenda threatened me with, tresspassing, harassment, defamation of character, and slander.) My efforts to come to a peaceful agreement were futile with her.
4) Dont sign a contract stating all matters will be held in the breeders county, this will be terrible if you are out of state. Brenda told me she has gone to court before and her contract holds up. So this is telling me that there are others out there who had problems with their cat. How many times, who knows.
My post is for unsuspecting consumers, so no one ends up in my shoes. This has been a nightmare. I wish I never met Brenda. Please do your research and come to your own conclusions. What Brenda has said about me is not true, and shows an unprofessional manner. My last vet appointment with the cat was when they told me I would need a $1000 skin biopsy for the auto immune and take her to a dermatology specialist(which is approx. $500 just to walk in), there isn't one near me, and I couldn't afford it anyway. Brenda had the option of taking the cat back, she had her 11 months, I had her one! she refused. Trying to find a home for a cat with multiple penny sized lesions is impossible. Hopefully, she has found a good home with some one with the finances and time to treat her. I have learned my lesson well!

For anyone who wants the truth, please see my website www.baldandpurri.com I have posted about this disgusting action of Erin Narutowicz of Towson, Maryland. I have nothing to hide! Erin is a terrible pet owner, so all you dog and cat breeders, beware!!!!She refused ANY TREATMENT and testing for this cat, so it was never diagnosed before she dumped it at the Baltimore City shelter, Knowing they would put her down due to over crowding! I have all text messages, and photos. I'll be glad to share them!
