Complaint Review: Bally Total Fitness - Brooklyn

While Bally seems to have a national reputation for poor and dangerous service (hence the bankruptcy), this is certainly one of its most awful locations.

- The equipment is dangerous: Treadmills (the ones not perpetually out of order) will jerk to a stop in the middle of your run.

- The facilities are filthy and in a perpetual state of disorder. You will trip over weights that litter the floor at random.

- The staff is rude and unhelpful. They will ignore your complaints if you are young and they will actually respond rudely if you are old and seem to pose little threat. I heard antisemitic slurs made by staff against another member who did not speak Russian (the gym is in a Russian/Jewish neighborhood).

- It is always hot and sticky inside. If asked, managers will always respond that the AC repair guy will "come tomorrow." There is no AC repair guy.

The cheap contract is not worth it if you actually plan to work out. If your intention is to join and never come again after a week (i.e., New Years resolution), then this is the place for you.
