Bally Total Fitness ripoff upon signing up for 1 yr membership - after expiration of over year and went to cancel - they tried to collect for a life-time membership Pleasant Hill California
Initially when I joined, I signed up for a one (1) year contract which was the minimum. [my company had relocated me to the area near this Bally Fitness (Pleasant Hill) from where I was previously (San Francisco), so I only wanted a short term membership - WITHOUT A DOUBT] They would not let me join initially on a month-to-month basis, so I ended up signing the 1 year contract.
It ended up being a year and a half that I was a member, but after the 1 year (term) time frame elapsed, then it just reverted to a month-to-month payment.
When I no longer needed to be a member (because I was leaving the company, and relocating back to San Francisco where I live) I gave them written notice that I was cancelling my membership.
Soon thereafter they sent me a bill for about $450+ dollars!!! indicating that I owed the balance on a LIFE TIME MEMBERSHIIP contract!!!
NO WAY !!!!!
Needless to say, that I wasn't going to pay for something that I didn't sign up for. They even went as far as sending this fraudulent amound due to a collection agency and it has shown up on my credit report.
THEY SHOULD CALL THE PLACE.....BALLY TOTAL 'SCAM'
