I went to Nick on 18 jan 2012 I explained the problem (lose of power and blowing black smoke) He said yer common problem simple fix,  book it in on the 1 feb 2012 so i had to hire a van for work,  He rang me the next day and told me the turbo was had it,  I said are you shore i just had it checked by another mechanic,   he said well it's not the turbo it's the waste gate and it's part of the turbo.  So he fitted the new tubo  [$2,548.54]. The next day i drove it home still got the same problem.

I took it back the next monday 5 feb 2012 , He said he will check it out, Wensday he rings me and tells me it was a faulty turbo and MERCEDES will replace it but i would have to replace the turbo pressure converter valve  [$198.82]  for warranty. He rings and says while he was test driving he broke the gear shift cable  [$181.24.]  This time i get it back and i have no first or fift gears, and it's still running like sh*t,  So strait back to him and asked him to drive with me,  He drove about 200 meters and looked at me and said it's never dun that before,

I said so what the h*ll have you been fixing, He ajusted the gears and i drove off after a few words.  On the next monday I rang a mobile mechanic MILOS of benz lcv he come to my house, I explained what was wrong  he opened the hood and pulled out a six inch peace of hose,  problem fixed, He said that would have been the problem not the turbo not the wast gate. and he only charged me $100.00 what a guy. < not like that SCUM BAG NICK VAFEAS BAM GARAGE> So be warned stay away from that p***k

Response to Customer Review

#2REBUTTAL Owner of company

Thu, May 14, 2015

Hello all readers,

My name is Nick Vafeas owner of BAM Garage since 1998 and one of my customers has just recently advised me of this report. As you can see by todays date my response to this is somewhat 3 years later as I have been unaware of this claim. I do however remember this gentleman/customer at the time. My internal job sheet reveals notes in relation to the scope of works. We have notes that the client did bring the Mercedes Sprinter Courier Van to BAM Garage in 2012 with over 400,000kms on the speedometer. There are notes where the customer complained about large amounts of smoke and no turbo boost, and would not drive up a hill unless in first gear. This was true and it would not gain speed or RPM up Fifth Avenue Bulimba, which is a very steep road test route for our clients’ vehicles that we test performance issues on.

The claims made about BAM replacing the turbo are correct and his spelling is not correct but nevertheless a boost pressure control valve was also fitted. Yes, unfortunately the gear stick linkage did fail on the road test and we replaced it out of good faith, labour free and charged cost price for the part only.

The client did bring the vehicle back complaining it was surging since work was completed. I then personally went for a road test with the client, with myself being a passenger. He road tested the van up Fifth Avenue Bulimba at a dangerously fast speed changing gears all the way up. It went like a rocket I must admit and I saw minimal smoke out of the rear of the diesel van at full throttle. Please note that most turbo diesel vehicles/trucks will usually have some smoke coming out of the exhaust under these conditions.

From here we returned to the workshop and offered to connect our diagnostic equipment to check for any live or logged fault codes out of good faith as the vehicle in my professional opinion was repaired. Unfortunately the client seemed aggressive and not approachable for myself to help out and wanted a full refund for the works completed. I did not refund as I could not fault the van in anyway at all and drove surprisingly well seeing that it had travelled over 400,000kms as a work courier van.

After reading this review I must say I am disappointed in the allegations and have tried to contact the client to discuss and resolve. Unfortunately no return call has been received. If by any chance the client reads this response I would be grateful for the opportunity to resolve the dispute as myself and the team at BAM Garage thrive on customer service and always go over and beyond on quality workmanship and take great pride in our work.

Kind Regards,

Nick Vafeas
