Hey, Bank of America are jerks. I wanted to close my account, because BOA took over my bank and my free account became a pay one, and I moved out of state so all my transactions were taking really long even though I changed my address with the bank. So I went down to the bank one day, emptied my accounts and said that I wanted to close them. The "personal banker" told me that she couldn't close my accounts because the computer thought there was money in them still, and that it wouldn't clear until next Monday. Rather than give her a hard time, I returned next week and lo and behold, my monthly account maintenance fee got charged over the weekend and I was negative $7. With, of course, a $27 overdraft fee. This, I gave her a hard time about. I finally decided to just pay the damned thing, but guess what? Still can't close it. Computer thinks the account is overdrawn. I get mad because this keeps happening, my transactions are taking so long to clear that I keep getting their stupid maintenance fees and they won't repeal them. So I let the account sit. They send me angry letters, so I decide to deposit $80 to get my account out of the negative and start over, maybe trying to close my account in the branch I opened it in? But that branch is in my old state. hrm...

So they force close my account after they let me deposit $80 in it. (Smarty me, saved the receipt. Hasn't done me a lick of good, though.) They say they'll send me the balance in the mail. Yeah, that hasn't happened yet. It's been seven months. But, and this is just absolutely tops, only my checking account was forced closed. My savings account wasn't, and now my savings is in the negative. Apparently, there're fees for a savings account that isn't linked to a checking account. I mean, actually, this is the tops. My checking account has mysteriously reopened after being forced closed for two months, has a bunch of new maintenance fees on it. No record of the $80 deposit, though.

Now THAT is an absolute bank bung-up. IMHO, Bank of America absolutely does not care about the little guy and is staffed by a bunch of addle-pates. Only go there if you have a million dollars and don't mind them stealing some.
